This was awesome! Dubach doesn't get enough credit got how good he was back then. He was at the front with the big boys most of the time, and even won a supercross. Just flies under everyones radar for some reason as to how legit he was.

He is still legit and probably the fastest of his contemporaries these days... as evident by his multiple World Vet Championships. I raced against him at Carlsbad MX in the early 2000s and he was unstoppable then. Bastard would purposely start on the far outside just to give himself a challenge.

Very cool interview. Doug is a friend of mine. I was there for a lot of those times....Starting with the last days at Escape Country/Racing World on 80's (I had that YZ80e he talked about)...the 84 Golden State Series...the Saturday Saddleback days...the last Saddleback National in 84. I was on a 250 when he was on a 125. He lived across the bay from me in Costa Mesa. A stand-up guy who parlayed quite the career out of his MX racing days!
Dubach seems like one of the coolest guys in the sport. He was way WAY before I was following MX/SX but I have a feeling he would be a favorite rider back then.
Got to race Dubach at Farleigh 2 years ago, was between him and Kurt Nicoll on the start line. Got chance to have a brief chat in the holding area, nice guy who still loves to race.
