Should it go with the rider, stay at the team, or no one gets it, if a riders switches teams ?

I can't remember did Dungey bring a number 1 plate to KTM ?

Not even a question that it goes with the rider. The OEM or team can claim a championship on the side of the truck, in ads or on resume's but the rider should wear the plate no matter what he's on the following season.

There will be a KTM on display w/ a Red Plate next-year.

There will, probably, be a Suzuki w/ a "1" on it , too

Look back to early 70's and ask Can-Am, Honda and Gary Jones about #1 plates.

Gary won the 250 National Championship 3 years in a row. First on Yamaha, After which Honda hired Gary and his #1 plate. The next year Can-Am hired Gary (and the #1 plate) away from Honda.

The rider races and earns his placing. The motorcycle is just the tool used to do so.

Dungey did not bring a #1 plate with him to KTM. He did win one while riding a KTM during the 2012 MX nationals.
