Southwick 1998 when Dowd and Henry went 1-1.

2004 Indy SX at the old RCA Dome. Larocco led from start to finish and won before the hometown crowd. The place went nuts.

Stacked Lorreta classes in 2005

Stewarts battles with RC and Langston 2007 Southwick

Souhwick 2010. Metcalfe runs out of gas on the last lap while leading Dungey

I was at the Moscow Supercross with the great RupertX!

I was also at the race Kenny Zahart was DQ'd at for giving his mechanic a ride over the finishline

I was at the 500cc Final in St Pete when Hannah lost the championship to Smith due to a carb clip or something like that.

The one and only Chicago SX that was cold AF and dangerous AF

RC's first comeback win with Suzuki, PHX

How was Moscow?

I’ll speak for Dave, here…. The weather was cold as were most of the people….we would never go back but we’re glad we went…. Probably not fair to judge Russians by Moscow in winter, alas things were fairly bizarro
I've always wanted to go but the cold is a deterrent for sure.

I was at the Metrodome in Minneapolis the night McGrath won for the first time on his Suzuki. My first SX race in person. I fell in love with MX/SX that night... Still remember him throwing a nac-nac or two on his victory lap(s).

Rick Ryan winning '87 Daytona SX as a true privateer, RC's last SX at Orlando '07, and Scott Parker taking over the all time dirt track win lead from Jay Springsteen at the '91 Indy Mile.

I was in the corner where Everts passed Stew standing on the pegs. I was in the downhill where Pastrana jumped over Ronron. I saw Magoo last crash at Bercy. I saw Demaria almost defeat McGrath at Bercy. I saw RC ride like a goon in the mud at Foxhill. I also saw him having to really dig deep to beat Townley at Ernée. I saw JMB fight for the championship with Patrick Demaria (Yves' big bro) for the + 13 Minivert title. And so on and so on...

World title decider in WomenMX. Before Moto1 Fontanesi leading over Lancelot. In Moto 1 Lancelot finishing up front snatching red plate. Fontanesi battling thru pack whole moto. The awning of Fontanesi's team shut after Moto1. Sighting lap of Moto 2 Lancelot's bike goes on strike. She got spare bike on the gate but is not allowed to use it due to FIM rules. Fontanesi claims title with Lancelot DNS in tears.

From 2016 FIM allowed to switch bikes on the gate if you got it there. It seems significant if the race changed the FIM rulebook.

Sadly just missed the Chadapult incident from the top fence line but I did get to see Chad pick up his bike and hit the up hill triple. Everyone went nuts.

Mammoth Mountain 1981. A 14 year old kid from So Cal showed up and raced pro as it was a non sanctioned race. At the time you had to be 16 to race an ama sanctioned pro race. He won the 125 pro race. It was Ron Lechien.

I was there for the 2001 San Diego Supercross. I remember a fan on the train/tram from the hotel to the stadium saying "I'm so tired of seeing McGrath win". My response, "you're witnessing history". That night, RC began creating his own history. A great race between those two legends with RC coming out on top.

Kenworthy's 1998.

It was 100 degrees in the shade. Jeff Emig smoked everybody, both motos, in black gear. Carmichael swept both motos in the 125's. I miss that track!

Was at 2002 RCA dome when DV punted RC late in last lap to take win. Was Awesome!
At Steel City when Langston trashed wheel losing out on title.
Saw Alby win the 250' mx title at Steel City in 99 I believe, Emig vs MC winner take all at Steel city 96 title. Fro was flying, That factory KX was just awesome,. .
Travis vs Roncada for 125 title at Steel City
Steel City labor day weekend was always so exciting. as the championship usually was determined that weekend. Obviously before Rc entered the scene lol
Saw Kelly Smith get KTM first national win at High Point on Mathes tuned sx 125 in 2000

Lakewood 1979. First national in Colorado. I had tickets #1, 2, and 3. Seeing the factory bikes at the hotel they were all staying was amazing.

I was there at the 1984 Super Bowl of Motocross when Broc Glover rolled out the very first set of pink JT gear for the Miller Dash. I thought that stuff was cool.
I remember him saying that if he wore pink, he was going to have to win... And he did.

Definitely Unadilla in 1998 when Robbie Reynard flat out beat Ricky Carmichael in the 125 class. He was WFO the entire corner right before Gravity Cavity and was incredibly smooth during the entire moto. Ricky had nothing for him that day.

It was also cool to watch Doug Henry clinch the championship that same year at Broom-Tioga. Such a stand-up guy on and off the track. A well deserved championship and turning point in the sport (leading the 4-stroke evolution).

2006 MXDN, Cairoli on a 250 passed Tedesco right in front of me on the whooped out straight on the upper end of the track for the moto win.
I also went there to see RC, but he got injured the week before at GH. So I never got to see him race in person, which is a bummer.
We had a huge Mototalk get-together both the night before and on the track for race day - freaking awesome! Happy to see most are still around on this forum.

Redbud, the year Seb passed and pulled away from RC and then ran out of fuel right before the finish. I spent that entire Moto running from the back to the front of the track every lap watching Tortelli put on one of the best rides on that track I’d ever seen. I ended up being right next to the finish when Seb was trying to push his bike up the finish table. It was heartbreaking to watch.

It might not be a huge historical moment in the sport, but races like that didn’t happen much before and after.
