There was a post in a thread here that was about Aaron Plessinger, that hinted that Team Yamaha was going through some serious issues. I believe one poster said it was a "shit show". The gist of the problems...or so a member posted, was that Team Yamaha was no longer getting direct support or supplies from Yamaha of Japan.

Does anybody really know if this is the case or not? I think Team Suzuki had to reduce itself to using JGR as it's "factory" team because of limited Suzuki of Japan support with R&D, and factory equipment. Does this appear to be the case with Yamaha as well?

Did they pull support after the 1st 2 rounds? Didn't seem to matter then.

I thought it was referring to their rider selection for the last 5 years.

Think about it. The Yamaha hasn’t consistently been on the Box since James and Chad rode them. Crazy!

Isn't one of their riders selected in the last 5 years carrying the #1 plate?

He is, but he didn't win it on blue.

Right. So "rider selection" may not be the problem. A guy capable of winning a championship is the right rider selection, but presumably it was the wrong environment to achieve that result.

All of the Yamaha (450) bashing over the past years has always baffled me. At this point, it is almost evident (emotions aside) that the riders struggle with the bike which is a conclusion I never thought I would agree with. I think what baffles me is that Yamaha GP riders don't seem to have the same issues the American riders do. I realize they have access to different parts, but the bikes can't be that fundamentally different. I would say it is a SX thing, but outdoor results aren't far off from SX.

I'd say a lot of it is how the guys here set up their bikes. Look at Kenny's setup vs everyone else, especially outdoors. He is noticeably softer. Same with the GP guys. For some reason, our guys set up their bikes so freakin' stiff, even outdoors. Go back to 2016 outdoors and watch the difference between Kenny's RMZ and anyone else's bike. The difference is huge!

All that engineering for a brand new motor....same gas tank from 1993 though. Suspicious to say the least

Not many teams rely on Japanese parts to the extent that they used to. Most race teams can manufacture most all they need right here in the US...of course there sre some things still supplied by Japan (or Austria in the case of KTM).
I think Yamaha's problem is set up - they do not gave a good base of settings to refer to...

Well, they did just completely re-engineer the 85, but kept the '93 style tank

Wasn't it Chad who hinted at management at yamaha not letting the riders do what they wanted set up wise? Like management had an idea of what it should be regardless of what the riders thought?
Barcia this year has gone back to a more stock bike and it worked for the first 2 rounds. I don't know if he is still sick or not so whether that impacted results for the last 2 rounds I'm not sure

In my opinion, part of rider selection is keeping them on the brand. The bike gets raving reviews in the media, besides Bam Bam, they haven't had very good results.

From the off season race interviews, Yamaha is listening to the riders a lot more on bike setup. Sounds like there was a disconnect between riders and management on setting up the bike.

Barcia is looking a lot better this year than he did last year and he says he likes the bike way more than he did last year.

I don't think if Webb had stayed blue, he has a championship right now. And I am not necessarily blaming the bike (though it may factor).

But what happened is clear, and he has said it himself: He walked into a winning culture with championship-proven hardware and people, and bought in fully to the program in place there.

I think Webb would be a 5-10 guy if he stayed at Yamaha. There is something going on at Yamaha, not sure what, but the results say a lot

When you go to their pits....it's has a different vibe. Looks like a lot of people trying to look important while standing around. Am i the only one that sees this in the pits or am i way off on this?

Yamaha won 1 MXGP and no MX2 GP's 2019

Right now 2020 Yamaha has 1 SX win and 2 SX2 Wins after 4 rounds , I think your thoughts are mixed up.

Idk it may be a stretch but wasn’t it known that White made parts years ago while at Honda and the same with Butler at Yamaha? Idk if it’s the bike as much as people in positions within Yam making the calls. With that being said I do think there is a concern with Yamahas 450 for pro’s.
Idk what that entails but some thing is off.,,

Ok guys, I’ll make a sacrifice.

You guys pool together and buy me a YZ450 and send to me. I’ll ride it and report back to you here of my findings. This shall answer the age old questions about the bike and I’ll find you the answers once and for all. I know it will be difficult but I can fit it in my schedule to find you the truth.
