I'm currently trying to make the cockpit feel as nice as possible for me as im 6ft2 (188cm), and I've been looking into different things to make my bike feel better for me. I've already got bar risers (30mm) and they have helped me out a lot, but as of right now I just still feel like the lower half of my body just can't get grip or feels uncomfortable on the bike. So far I've seen online that people recommend lowboy fastway pegs and tall seats but I'm not sure how much change they'll have for me, what adjustments have you tall riders made and what do you recommend? thanks Smile

I run a pro taper sx race bend bars and haven’t changed anything else. It’s a little awkward standing but I just bend my knees more and push my hips back and I make it work. Tall seats and risers change the bikes geometry and handling so if you do change it make sure you know you are going in the right direction.

I am 6'3" and my go to modifications are:
Renthal RC High bars (You want the least amount of sweep you can tolerate to open the rider compartment)
Move bars forward (Method depends on the make and model of bike. On one particulary cramped bike I used risers that were one inch taller and one inch forward. Looked funky but it worked.)
Lower pegs
Stiffer than typical suspension to compensate for the increased leverage of your weight being carried higher.
Learn to scrunch down on the bike to keep weight lower.
Learn to sit as far forward as possible. Tall guys will naturally sit farther back without even realizing it.
Realize that the bike will almost always feel cramped because they were not designed for us.
DON'T use a taller seat. I have tried tall seats on many bikes and they never cornered right. It may sound crazy but a lower seat is actually better for a taller rider since we have more mass up higher.
Last but not least, run the bare minimum you need for a moto in the gas tank.

6ft 4 - ride a 2020 YZ450f, only tall mods are:

bars in forward position
pegs in low position
bar clamps in forward position.
taller seat foam

I found the Honda's to me felt a lot smaller in general because of how slim they are.

Tall seats are weird for me. I'm not quite as tall (6'1") so it's not such a problem for me; I just run standard seats. I have shorter legs and longer arms anyway. The thing about tall seats is that I can definitely notice the difference in turns. I feel like I can't get the bike to settle down into ruts.

What has made a big difference for me is to run the bar clamps forward on the triple clamp. This really opens up the cockpit and gives me more room to move. I run a pretty flat bar with less sweep (971 bend) and it works great.

I've never tried the low pegs but that might be a good option.

I read the tall seat, "throws off cornering geometry" bs over and over again but decided to get one anyway. It's 100% worth the money imo. It'd the only tall mod I run and I'm 6'4".

Do you guys think that moving the handlebar clamps forward on the triple clamp changes the way the bike feels when turning? Does it make the bike twitchier? I haven't moved mine forward from the stock rear position, but might do it if it doesn't change any of that stuff. I am 6'2 on a 19 kawi 450.

You’d definitely see a remarkable difference with the installation of the much coveted, “Purple Power Band”.

Moved the bar mounts forward on my YZ450 and yes the bike turned in quicker. But once you're used to the twitch, i see the quicker change in direction an advantage.

I don't do anything at all.

My experience with Bar Risers has been they change the geometry from the way it was designed to be, and typically lead to worse handling or cornering.

Nothing.
Never change the geometric triangulation of a bike, it was studied in that way.
Nowadays there are teams of engineers that work on this stuff. I get that it's uncomfortable but... my advice is to not change anything.
At most, go for a taller seat and higher bar. Don't start lowering pegs or that stuf... also i wouldn't use bar risers

I’m 187cm.. run a stock seat and normal bars.. just move a bit more with the body.. no need to change it up..

Only put a little higher handlebar on my 110 Tongue

I'm 6'3.

Bar risers really throw of the the handling for me. I've tried them all, but really prefer a more standard setup.

Tall seat, while very comfortable and awesome for gripping the bike with your knees/legs, also mess with the center of gravity when seated for turns.

My strongest recommendation is for lowered foot pegs. Any amount helps. Not sure if the KX's still offer that as a stock adjustment, but their pegs were great.

Otherwise I've used the Pro Taper Spi platform pegs for a long time with the 5mm lower cleat. Doesn't sound like much but it makes a huge difference in the bike/leg control department as well as lower the rider's center of gravity on the bike.

I don't notice a change in the handling except for how it allows me to more comfortably sit/stand where I'm supposed to be.

+20mm optional seat on krm and husky and that's it.

Apart from pillow top grips are slight bigger and the titanium propegs have a little better grip and platform

And anyone that thinks a bike with a taller seat won't turn should let Travis Pastrana know

Same. That bend and model seem to work the best for me. Currently running them on a CRF450R

Plus a tall seat that I shaved a bit out of...

My biggest issue is trying to ride on the balls of my feet instead of my heels. 6'1". I've tried all the mods in the past and now run stock using any available adjustments.

No bar risers, low flat bars with minimal sweep. You want the bars low and forward, the rest is leg and core strength. I’m 6’4” and anything else makes the bike handle jank.

You're really not even that tall but the Honda's are cramped as hell. I've also found that super tall bars and/or risers adversely affect the cornering drastically, as well as a tall seat, but sometimes you just cant get by without a little taller foam. I don't see the need for tall bars... we already have long arms to reach them.

I'm 6'5"... 2019 Yamaha 450

** Fastway low pegs, down and back.
** 3/4" taller seat foam-- First time I've HAD to run a taller seat in years
** Bars and mounts furthest forward position

I'm 6ft 4 and have tried most of the mods available in the past.
Bar risers or super high bars feel nice when stood tall or jumping but completely ruin cornering.
Tall seat was good for gripping with knees and easier on my legs for standing from sitting position, but again it ruined my cornering.
Low pegs are ok but my size 13 boots didn't like them as I kept catching my toes on ruts etc.

The most comfortable bike for my size was a 2018 KXF450 I had last year. I moved the bars forward on the clamp, and lowered the pegs 5mm, and it was perfect.

I've now got a 16 YZ250 and it feels like a bmx in comparison. Feels too small and slim, and i feel 100ft too tall for it, but man it's so much fun i love it lol

I had your same Honda. Lower pegs helped a ton. ENZO lowered the shock for me on top of giving me first class suspension. I brought down the forks in the clamps just a tad to get rid of Honda stinkbug feeling. Honda’s are just smaller bikes and it takes a lot of dicking around for tall guys to set them up. Oh mine was a 18 I bought the OEM newer clamps that have a forward and aft bar holes to mount your bars in forward position to stretch out cockpit.
You won’t want to hear this but the true fix is get a Kawi. Best bike for tall guys

Get rid of the stock shifter. Need more room in between the peg and shifter for the bigger boot size. Easier to shift. Check out https://hdmoto.com/ I use both break and shifter that they make.

I run a taller seat, sometimes taller bars depending on the bike but by far the best thing I've ever done at 6'3" is the fastway f4 pegs they not only go lower they move back too giving our big ass feet more room between the shifter and brake pedal. I can grip the bike with my kneew and the ease of standing is dramatically increased. One of the coolest parts about having the pegs swept back a little for taller riders is it gives you a WAY better center of gravity proportionally to where a shorter rider would stand.

Every single really, really fast tall rider (even at GP level) have said leave it "normal". I'm only 175cm so i can't give my own thoughts on this but what i've heard, don't go the crazy high bar bend or bar mount route.

Btw, look at Arminas Jasikonis Factory FC450. That guy is massive and he has a pretty neutral bike.

I tried the front mounts on my '18 yz450 and did not like the way it made the bike handle. Felt less stable to me.

Seems like everyone here loves the Fastway lower foot pegs. I’m 6’ 3” and curious to try them. I’ve never had any mods to adjust for my height.

Stock Rmz450 bars are Renthal KTM high, and I also put those on my Yz125, I feel like that bend is good for taller riders.
