I asked him about what we see ten years in the future. His answer?

“So many possibilities. Electric bikes. Hybrid. So many chances for us. In this moment I don’t know. Maybe nobody knows. But I want to make the same type of YZ…450 and 250. Engines and dirt, the same type of motocross bike, because I like that. Someone said the electric bike will be in the market in the future. But the electric bike doesn’t have sound, and doesn’t have the same kind of excitement. I like this type of motocross."

The electric bikes are cool, but I just don't about the racing thing with it. I need some loud noise with it.

Thankfully. Motocross would never be the same with electric zoomers buzzing around.

I hope the future of MX isn't electric, because you need noise! and if someone is coming from behind you and trying to pass you..... it could get really dangerous because you can't hear it. Keep it how it is.

I dont think sound would bother me either way. I cant say because I have never witnessed an electric motocross race. I do know the electric motor would be more fun to ride. Fully tuneable and torque from the second you touch the throttle. And it would be way more fun to trail ride.

Motocross was twice as exciting when 40 two-stroke bikes left the gate.

Electric bikes can stick speakers on both sides and you could have a switch that made a sound like a 450F, a 250T, a general electric jet turbine, a big block can-am chevy, a pod racer from star wars, etc.

Especially 40 highly tuned 125's. Remember those? It was a class designed for the up and coming pro's before they settled into a career in the 250F class. Did I say that? Someone still needs to go to prison. Bring back the 125's. At this point I could care less about what they do with the other junk.

You forgot the, "In my opinion," in that statement. Motocross is motocross, whether it's braaaap or ppppphhhht.

Electric bikes would be awesome. Just stick a queen of spades in your spokes.

Electric bikes could only help the sport imo. This would allow tracks to pop up all over the country in populated areas which would certainly drive growth.

He also didn't claim that one version or the other was, "Twice as exciting." Turn the sound off on current or old school footage, and what are you left with? The racing. Neither one is "Twice as exciting."

But he did say sound mattered, right?

'Course, I could probly only pull this off on a 50 auto kid on practice day, I'm so damn slow...an' he'd probly crash... an' his gramaw'd beat the shit outta me...

Eh, nevermind, I'm justa noob. I oughta just STFU.

You may be a newbie, but clearly you have some innovative ideas.

First test question for you:

How exactly does a seat bounce work?

Right, and I assume he was referring to an internal combustion engine, vs. an electric one.

I remember my first race at Perris in the late 60s. That was the first thing I noticed was the smell of premix, the fuel, not the guy on MD.

Well, that's easy.
You unbolt it, stand on a ladder and drop it from exactly 10 feet(cushiony side down, of course), and measure how far it bounces.

As a side note, I only use 'em if they bounce 3 inches or more. Any less, I'm sure to get severe monkey-butt. Ugly.
