I'm thinking about taking my 4 year-old girl to Oakland SX but I am new to the area and have never been there. Any ideas for good sections to sit in or any other kid-friendly ideas? I couldn't find any family seating- I'm not that worried about it, but I know some of you NorCal boys and girls can be rowdy.
I have a hotel in Berkeley that I stay at, but a good one near the venue would be nice, if anybody knows somewhere nice nearby that won't be full of bros getting hammered (not that there's anything wrong with that).
She's been to Hangtown twice with no problem- her main concern is whether Oakland has a sand pit to play in like Hangtown. I told her no, and she's taking it pretty well. She watches moto with me all the time- it's pretty awesome to have a little moto pal! I think she is going to love it.

When I was with my son, we got the bart commuter train to the Coliseum, but last year I took the mrs and younger daughter so uber.
The Shop
Even the Oakland Zoo and the kids Berkeley Lawrence Hall of Science Museum are great options to fit in.
Or like we’ve done.
Drive in from the valley and stay like in Dublin or Pleasanton and Bart in and back.
In my opinion, the extra ticket costs are worth it. Those seats are usually nicer, better bathrooms, and they also have a host to make sure only club level ticket holders are able to enter that level.
And NorCal Vet- I plan on going into the city on Sunday- maybe the Aquarium and Coit Tower. SF is an amazing city- I go there quite a bit, but I haven't set foot in Oakland yet.
it was not a huge deal—contained and handled quickly.
Now, I just skip it. I'm not a fan at all of that town. My 3 cents.
Pit Row
I sit up in the higher seats (more fam friendly) when I take my oldest daughter (she's 8). My youngest daughter (5) stays home because she can't sit through a movie yet, much less a supercross without fidgeting.
Good luck, have fun, be safe.
higher seats on the backside are good and the concessions are clean.
in 100 sections typically rows 30 and higher are under overhang.
Yes, tough area. I just pay the $40 parking and bitch about it. I have parked near BART station without issue before, but def sketchy area.
I'm not getting on the BART with her after the race though!
I don't want to belabor the post, but some of you guys have me wondering if I should even do this. It's kind of sad that I have to seriously contemplate my girl's safety just to go see a sporting event in a modern American city. I want to have fun, not survive the night with PTSD.
Figuring it would be better to show up at the start of the show so she could make it through, I showed up at 6:20 and was directed to overflow parking across the highway. Not a huge deal- we walked over and found an entrance and went through security. (I had planned to park in lot A and mapped out the best entrance for my seat).
That is when I discovered that just showing up at a gigantic stadium at night for the first time, with a 4.5 year-old and thinking you will just make your way to your seat is a questionably sane idea (at least in my case). I spent the next 40 minutes carrying my kid around the perimeter and talking to 4-5 staff that kept sending me around in search of section 249. By the time I figured it out, I saw that section of the "club" was being remodeled, my section was pretty much sealed off, and a guy told me to go through the men's room. I was getting a bit bummed out at that point.
We watched some heat action and I needed a beer (and her a snack) by that point. (Holy Shit the line was the slowest moving I have ever been in, I think the guy at the register had popped a 'lude.)
After a heat or two, she was ready to go and we left. I made it back in time to watch the main in the hotel (Go Webb) and she conked out. But she was a super trooper and said afterwards that it was cool.
We had a spectacular day on Sunday at Pier 39 so the trip was awesome overall. I think she'll probably stay home next time. And I didn't encounter one jerk-off in the thousands of people we saw.
Even at night out in a dark stadium parking lot. People were cool as hell and friendly to a T. Thumbs up on that, Californians!
