I thought that in person the track was a little more tricky than some on here on suggesting, that dragons back being run both ways had the potential for disaster (and it did knock out some of the super minis and 250 guys). There were some hard get offs during practice and qualifying all around the track.
There were a bunch of Europeans in attendance at the race, especially 243 fans. Talked to quite a few of them, they were having a blast, a few of them were part of the group that travels to the European GP rounds, wave the 243 flags and are doing the paint bombs.
It was a really fun event to attend in person, but the crowd size was disappointing, I would say only 60 to 70% full overall. Hopefully they continue to hold the event in the future.
Didn’t he out perform Webb mostly when they where teammates
Webb goes to KTM and South Africa trainer and off he goes
The Yamaha seems a bit of a dog in the AMA rules
Arvee should have stuck it out. He had a good opportunity to expand the US thinking about MXGP and a better than not chance to win it.
I hear he wasn’t in a good place and what not and was through with racing in his mind but if you’re going over there then finish it. By quitting it makes it ok to quit.
Not bagging on Arvee, one of the greats in any discussion about all time greats just not the exit I had hoped for when he signed up for MXGP. I expected more.
Pit Row
A maybe 10th - 15th guy? Really?
What's your opinion if he ran outdoors here? Can't wait to hear this one.
Outdoors wise, definitely top 3 (in first year even). People forget how fast he was this year when he started beating Caroli (before he got hurt) before taming it down a bit once he had the title sewn up
I think if the mec track had seattle sx (2019) whoops he'd loose a little (more) time on the top guys but he stayed up on 2 wheels and did better than most thought i beleve! Respectable ride for sure!
I think Tim had a great night in Vegas. He was better than I expected. Having said that, this was a weak field, and the track was relatively tame compared to a full on SX track. No whoops, no crazy rhythms down the 3rd baseline like we get at A2, etc, etc. So we have to put his performance in context. Sure he beat Barcia, but from what I've seen on IG neither Barcia or Plessinger have been motoing down on the SX track. Is that an excuse? Sure, but also a fact. Neither guy was race sharp at all.
Having said that, I do believe if Tim did a full season in the US riding 450 SX, he would improve to a very good level as long as he could stay healthy. I would say early in the series when everyone is healthy he's around 12th place, but certainly by the last few rounds I would see him racing for top-5s and possibly a podium. If you think 12th is an insulting number here are the guys I put ahead of him: Webb, Tomac, Musquin, Roczen, Anderson, Osborne, Baggett, Brayton, Barcia, Savatgy, Cianciarulo, Wilson, Mookie. Note that is actually 13 guys but on any given night shit happens to at least a couple of guys. Still, I think in the early part of the season when it's pretty healthy he's going to be right around Friese level which is really 10-15. I don't think this is an insult to him. Look at the guys I just listed. 8 of those 13 have won 450 SX races. All but JB10 have won 250 SX races and 8 of 13 have a 250 SX title. That is a very elite group.
Since people like to compare Tim to Barcia after Saturday, if Bam Bam went to MXGP for a full season he'd be 8-12 most motos. He'd struggle with the track variety and how fast the MXGP guys can ride through a turn. In fact he might have a harder time becoming a top-5 guy in MXGP than Gajser a top-5 guy in SX.
But he's talking about Gasser all the time. Not sure who that is
With the one weeks training he did and he got 5th
The only guys that beat him have been training for months
If he came over trained as much as the other guys he’s top 15
Gotcha
