Too many races are ruined by first turn pile ups. For the 250 east guys laying on the ground before the first turn essentially theyre season is over .
Grid start would solve this to a huge degree. It would also produce better racing by getting the top guys out together to battle for the whole race.

I watch "grid" starts in F1, and the first turn is similarly chaotic. Since i'm old school, maybe the rubber band or hand on helmet should make a comeback Unsure

I think the starts in SX need to be changed as well. The races are much too dependent on the start.
Put the fastest 11 riders in the front and the slower 11 in the back.
I'd rather see the fast guys go at it right from the get go. Plus that would help eliminate these slower riders causing so much carnage in the first turn like last night.

There needs to be more reward for being the fastest qualifiers. Gate pick isn't enough. SX/MX are the only motor sports where the fastest qualifiers aren't at the front.

Exactly something has to be done. Also would help reduce first lap crashes where slower guys are in the way and people are all over the place.

Everyone seems to get to tough guy defensive at the thought of any change being made.

I race Supermoto, we have grid starts, its no better, because folk who qualify behind you try and make up everything they didnt have for qualifying in the first 2 turns, with the same results as a gate drop. Plus you get the added risk of a guy from row 8 nailing someone on row 1 who stalls , which i have seen more times than i care to mention.

Doesnt have to be grid as you picture. Can still be 22 wide as it is now but staggered backwards 1 foot each position from inside to outside.

My idea wasn't a grid start. Put the second row back just a bit, just enough where they can't get into the front row in the first turn.
Imo, 22 guys starting at the same time is just too much. 11 would give everyone room in the first turn. At the end of the day, I don't care about the start as much as I want to see great racing.

If we are going to change anything about the start, the focus needs to be on all the shit that has made it easy to perfect your starts. Holeshot devices, start maps, RPM indicators, and metal grates. All that does is take the skill away so now 22 guys are entering the first turn together.

Theyve always been together. Need to seperate them. The two rows would work or what in suggesting.

NO. If anything, remove the holeshot devices. Nothing else.
F1 has grid starts. Guys get rear ended, side swiped, there is chaos all the time of some type.

If you think so lowly of the sport, there are plenty of other hobbies in the world for you. There are even ones with grid starts and still lots of carnage in the first turn, by the way.

Eliminating holeshots devices would be a great place to start if you ask me (not that anyone did)

Ban the races. That way no one gets injured. Just hand out the trophies to whoever you think would be the fastest.

Increasing the level of skill required to execute a perfect start WOULD separate them. You talk about being openminded but it appears you just want to push your idea.

I would be ok with that. The guys from 10th to 20th place know they really don’t have a chance and are fine with placing in the 10th to 20th place. Even if they start out front they fade fast and let people by. I think it’s a great idea.
It would allow for much better racing also having the top guys up front. It’s a great idea.

In addition to holeshot devices, the expanded metal starting grid is helping riders get off the gate together. Less 'Art of the Start' is resulting in more crowded first turns?

Sorry Asimo, I tried, but failed miserably, that dude in the infield made me laugh every time he got ants in his pants.

Your idea for change is ridiculous. Others have given good ideas but you don’t seem to be interested.
