It is devastating what happened in Japan. I hope they can bounce back from it as quickly as possible. Im betting the cost of OEM parts will rise.

Mt Fuji erupted a month after a similar size quake hit back in 1707...

In fact all of the major brand names have shut shop today and will be for some time.

I heard someone mention on the radio this morning that the entire country has shifted 8 feet from this? Can that be accurate?

At least there's still plenty of 4-strokes from several years back sitting on showroom floors.

One of my local shops has a brand new 2006 RMZ 450 and 250 on the floor still.

It is unreal what happened over in Japan, after watching some of the videos I couldn't believe it.

Yes. They also say the whole earth shifted on its axis.

From what I read the government has asked all industry to shut down for a short time to save power.

They have even asked that neon lighting used in unaffected areas be turned off.

With the nuclear plants being shut down there will be severe power shotages.

One official said "We understand that this will cause some incovenience for some, but we hope to have parts for Factory racing teams back in production as soon as possible"

I'm sure they will get something figured out, within time....
There is always after market companies, etc.
I just wonder if they will temporary move any of their factories/facilities.
Yamaha,Honda,Suzuki,Kawasaki all make more then just bikes...
One would think it is gonna take years for Japan to be somewhat back to normal again.

They are still having after shock quakes too. Big chances that those will be over 7.0 on the scale. It's not over yet. Those could cause more tsunami's and already unstable structures to go ahead and fall. Those nuclear reactors aren't in too good of shape either. Losing all their coolant and risking meltdown. Japan is far from being through this.

My understanding, Honda is the closest, but virtually unaffected.

The other three are more south, near Kyoto and Osaka, if I remember right.

Though you have to keep in mind, each have various facilities around the country, so it is possible certain satellite plants could have been affected.

Doubt it will hinder the factory race teams much, I'm sure they all have machine shops available that can reverse engineer the parts they need. I'd be sureprised if they didn't have the cad files for everything they need, there probably isn't even very much from the factory's that go on the bikes. Then again there is always ProCircuit........

Time is also affected by 1.26ms, due to the axis shifting.

We have all this tech, but Mother Nature still rules the earth.

From reading the USGA web pages they say the entire Earth shifted 10cm on it's axis. That's a serious amount for the entire planet to shift.
