Supercross here in the '90's had 80's, Junior 125's, and C grade 125/250.
The the tracks were obviously not like the current tracks but the jumps were always friggen huge.

Stephen Gall would do a Supercross school on the Friday (which most used for track time) and would allow you to get your Supercross endorsement. They were given to pretty much every kid and Gumby that turned up.

It was carnage all weekend.Dizzy
And the sketchy fucking whoops! No entry pad whoop, just flat to a 2 foot wall haha

The MEC track was basically a SX track without whoops and had faster speed straights built in. Probably MORE dangerous than most SX tracks outside of the whoops. Regardless, you would/ could easily modify the track to make it suitable without delaying the show.

I can understand if you think that it would make for a boring show that no one would want to watch (but I disagree) but not being able to shape a few piles of dirt to allow them to compete safely is a total cop out.

Feld had the MEC track built to suit minis AND big bikes. They could have the same done at other tracks.

Kill the 250 class and replace it with Amateur races. Design the track layout so that the superminis skip the dangerous parts of the track. The typical football stadium track uses 6 lanes, get rid of two lanes for the small bikes.

You're going to end up with kids hurt every weekend...that will not go over well. Having adult professionals that are racing for money getting hurt at every Supercross round is one thing...but young kids getting hauled off at every event is another thing all together, and won't go over well.
LOL. Do you even know what a Halo is? You DIDN'T see a kid hauled off with a HALO brace on unless he came with it on. I wore a Halo and you don't put one on like a brace. It's put on by a specialist at the hospital after viewing xrays. BTW - they put it on while you are awake with nothing but lidocaine as a numbing agent while they screw the bolts into your skull. I should know I was one of the first to ever wear one back in 83, the guy who invented it (or so i was told) put it on me at UCI after an Anahiem Amateur SX.

They should have a supermini class for both outdoor and SX.

I meant neck brace (medical style), calm yourself.

The minis this year were exciting because there was a race. There really wasn't much competition the rest of the night, and the minis didn't make it a great night of racing, just kept it from being total snooze.

Kudos for experimenting, but the joker lane twist this year was off, but don't know if a change to that would have helped things.

Joker lane probably woulda worked if we had the same competition as last year. With it being faster made sense to Rip it out first lap. I like the slower lanes because it forces the leader to basically drop a few positions....

You could make it relatively safe... Prohibit certain things such as, no tripling, can't skim whoops, etc, if you break a rule you are disqualified

I'm serious. Maybe not exotic superminis, but 85's. Kid's are in school, so national or regional would not be realistic, but how about 1 shot under the lights per rider. 1 entry per season. Cut the track if need be so Doc Bodnar isn't running out of leg splints. The entertainment factor is top notch.
You seen what happens when you have a world champion MXGP guy ride a tamed down SX track, just imagine what would happen to the kids on a real SX track. These kids have a ton of talent but they are way to immature for SX decisions.

Are you talking about at the AMA Pro races or just at the MEC? If so, you want to get rid of the most exciting class there is, and replace it with a kids class, and then you want to trim the track down to make safer for the kids? That's not going to bring fans in, and would actualy drive current casual fans away.

This would be like getting rid of college football, and replacing it with junior high players. No one is going to pay to watch that either.

Outta curiosity does the OP have a kid that rides or is the genius plan only for other peoples kids? I do and I sure as hell wouldn't want my kids riding these tracks where the builders don't seem to have any concept of run outs/safety decks/convex landings, etc.......................

Good idea until the first kid is carried out in a body bag. Won't take long.
Don’t see this too harsh, but I’m surprised (and blessed) that until now none of the pro’s are carried out like that the last couple of years during SX. Let’s work on keeping it that way. Already this years MEC we saw some vicious crashes from Bogle (which was scary as hell), Tomac, Gajser and Kobusch in the amateurs. 2 riders out cold in one night.. hopefully this makes them thinking. I know SX is dangerous but to say it is an ‘extreme sport’ as an excuse some guys posted in this topic is beyond awful to read.

I think the Amateur system with AX qualifying is better for the upcoming talent. We need to have them skilled and healthy coming into the pro’s and search for opportunities to keep the pro’s healthy as well. This is a long lasting debate unfortunatelly, but with a wide range of idea’s there have to be opportunities to improve this questionmark in SX.

Is it me but do the 2005 track maps for example looked way more raceable and forgiving? And is it right that Canard and Windham are working on safety for riders as well?

Tracks. Since every year we have a huge list of pro rider's out of action, the tracks ought to be toned down regardless of whether you let amateurs on them. You would also see better racing with less separation of talent.

Safety. We already are facing a weak field of talent this year, and already have at least 10% of the top 100 out of action. If you lose 5 or 10% of your riders each week, you've got no one left to put on a show.

Talent. I haven't seen anyone disputing the fact that plenty of minibike rider's the world over put a spanking on grown men on the same tracks on a daily basis. The talent pool is immense. There are more SX practice tracks in our local area than you can count on both hands, and training camps and rider schools.

There are many on this thread That like the idea. Doesn't much matter what we think anyways, Feld is not running a democracy

Dont know if this has been covered yet, but this is not a good idea at all imo.
Superminiriders are too young to be racing competetive supercross at the age of 12-16.

Not only the high risk of getting injuryd also the extreme high risk of being burnt out even before turning pro.

I say no to this, supercross and outdoors nationals belongs to the big boys for now.

Also: How the heck are all the families gonna afford go racing supercross and outdoors nationals with kids at the age of 13-14-15...?

Its gonna sergregate the sport and true talents will be wasted on the long term.

What they need is the supermini race before or during intermission not on tv. This will get people like myself interested in going to the races again.

We raced amateur day this year in Atlanta (Georgia Dome) on a tamed down track and had no major issues,

THIS ^^^^ Let these kids develop and get pubic hair before we put them in the 2 wheeled octagon.
