So I subscribed to supercross live as it's the only option for international viewers. Anyone else find the picture quality to be pretty sub par? I mean it's a $170 (cad) package. Awfully pricey for the quality I'm getting.
buffering too
The Shop
Last year was a lot better with the NBC Sports app. This is ridiculous.
Xfinity 1000mbps>Arris SB8200 modem>Eero Pro 6 router>Cat6 ethernet>Apple TV 4K>77” Sony A9G Master Series 4K OLED. Point is, it’s nothing on my end.
EDIT: Same as above, booth is flawless. One they switch to the other cameras on the track, picture goes to shit.
Pit Row
When they’re talking in the booth and the camera is stationary it’s fine, great and clear quality. When they are showing the on track practice it’s horrible. Blurry mess as the camera is trying to track the riders.
It's funny those saying it's good is showing a still image or an image that is hardlive moving.
In short, seems the bitrate is very low, i.e they might be sending 720p/1080p but at a low bitrate. Seldom do we see such sh*tty quality on streaming TV nowadays.
My wild guess is that they have gotten much feedback on lagging/buffering, and instead of fixing that they reduced the bitrate so the picture is bad (but requires less bandwith thus no lag/buffering).
Was funny to compare some clips from C.Craigs wifes video camera compared to Supercross Live feed... haha, her 'feed' is 10x better, high enoigh bitrate so when the camera is moving over the field, fast action, no blur or very grainy interlacing...
It doesn't matter if you have a $4000 new Samsung TV or a old sh*tbox, same thing... some devices hide the low quality a bit better. Actually, if you watch it on a small mobile phone screen it's alright!!!!
Well well, I paid the $120, I'd pay it again since I want to watch supercross but a shame they don't deliver quality as expected on the web since what, 2010 ? They got stuck in 2005 it seems...
Great opening race btw, great race between BamBam and KRoc and C.Craig was so worth his win!
Even our clubrace was better quality using just cheap cameras and free web stream service. NBSGold was ok but this is just BS.
Every year seems we are taking step back not forward with web streams.
Maybe they truly have listened to customer feedback on lag/buffering and just simply reduced the quality.
I guess the only thing we can do is write customer support and kindly ask to improve it. They can always claim that it's working flawlessly, and yes it is... it's just we would like to have higher quality
btw. Is SupercrossLive essentially the same feed as Peacock? (I read some post that someone was complaining about Peacock video quality also and I even think they referred to Peacock in some commentary in the Supercross Live feed).
Still picture and interviews etc is good, moving objects and track + bikes is complete shit.
So yes, it is full HD and most likely 25frames, but the encoding is with a bad profile/algorithm.
Could they do less compression on encoding (higher bitrate), yes! Do they want to? I don't know, maybe it will cost them money?
Again, I guess only thing that helps is a kind email to customer support, Please can you you less compression/higher quality encoding/bitrate. I guess it's no difference what terminology we use, it's the same. It's a videostream that is very lightweight (for some reason we don't know).
