Does anyone remember when opening ceremonies were a spectacle of large quantities of fireworks and green lasers? I remember watching the lites heat races through a cloud of smoke. Im curious if anyone misses the hype they used to have and why they were tamed down. I'm wondering if it was due to fire codes. It also makes me sad that people no longer stand up during the main event. Of course, the video quality of rider introductions has gone up.
Of course it sounded bad ass with one bike echoing around the stadium, and the smell of two stroke in the air. It was a better time. Much better.

The lights went down, except it was 6:30 in Atlanta and the dome has huge windows all around. So it just got a little dim. Then there were no fireworks, the sound system was weak, only three guys had any sort of intro skit and all of them rode out the same portal, did a wheelie down the start straight and then waved to the crowd a little. I think Tomac and maybe Reed actually jumped most of the jumps on the track.
The racing was great but everything else about the SX in Atlanta, including the new dome, was a let down.
Totally off topic but the new dome wasn't nearly as good to me. The floor space seemed cramped, the mezzanine level in the old dome was all carpet and had nice couches and places to chill during the dead time. The new dome has wifi and charging stations. No carpet. The danged seats weren't even padded on the mezzanine level. Can't believe the blew the other place up for this.
There's no showmanship anymore with the riders. It just got too damn serious. Now you have half the riders crashing themselves out on top of it.
This is the first year since 1998 that I haven't gone to a supercross race. I still haven't decided on Vegas, but I'm more looking forward to Glen Helen anyway at this point.
