Keep an eye out for this bike. It got stolen from the back of my friends truck in henderson Walmart. The numbers and graphics are probably already taken off but it has tons of identifying factors on it. Red radiator hoses. Red caps on the rear brake reservoir and motor plug. Also the loop to the bar pad on the front number plate was cut off.

Not dumb questions really. I would never leave my bike unattended either but it was. I don't know if it's insured. Just putting it out there in hopes that if it makes it to SoCal people might see it.

There is crime in Vegas. However, leaving your bike in the back of truck at Walmart - did the owner want to get the bike stolen? Who is Walmart's target market? For a meth head, this is quick cash. I am not championing stealing at all.... I would of been shocked had he returned with the bike in the back of his truck.

Las Vegas area. It happened in henderson in the middle of the day. It's a pretty nice area. I wouldn't leave a bike in the back of a truck anywhere but my buddy's brother did. It happened though and getting it back from a thief is the real importance here.

Walmarts here have cameras all around the parking lots.
If he filed a police report, loss prevention and local pd can review the tape.

Las Vegas must be one heck of a hole. I wouldn't think twice about leaving my bike (if i still rode) in a parking lot in my area.

This didn't happen because its vegas, dirtbags live everywhere. I'd be willing to bet that a bike is more likely to be stolen at the walmart in SLC on 300 west than the one here in Henderson.

Not saying Vegas doesn't have a ton of crime but this could happen anywhere.

This^^^. Go to Walmart and ask to see the footage. Ask questions. Call the officer that took the report to get updated frequently. Police in that area are very busy. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease!

That sucks, Walmart parking lot scene has really gotten worse here in NW AZ in the past year. It would be safe to safe that the # of transients and "sketchy" people has increased at least 25%. If it can be taken it will be, period.

That is why its great to have a old gas can around Christmas time( the holiday season is ripe with parking lot thefts) , you fill it with the nastiest stuff and you put it in the back of your truck. So....... when someone takes your can, and their free gas hurts their stuff, they may think twice about doing it again, just maybe...

i doubt they will let him see it without an officer there, and wal mart manager or loss prevention.and if the officer took a report, the tape should be in evidence by now.in case its needed for court.

No good samaritan will come forward and say, "yea, I saw the guy who took your bike out of the back of your truck"?

Its Walmart...tons of customers...none of them think its strange when somebody is unloading a dirtbike in the parking lot and loading it in a another truck/riding it off?

Why didnt the cop think to ask Walmart for there survalence camera? He/she should know they have one.

Lot of fail by fellow citizens in this whole deal.

There are good people in Vegas too.
Once my wife left her wallet on top of the pay phones in one of the casino. She realized it was missing once we got to the parking lot. At this point I'm thinking "good bye wallet". We went back and this guy is just waiting for us wallet in hand. All the cash is still in, and he didn't want a reward.

Maybe he was from out of town :-)

sad society, nobody wants involved, confrontation might result in something worse, or then the witness has to go to court, lose wages, travel etc. thats why people mind their own business, or maybe be smart , dont leave your shit unattended in a pickup truck.

You should send Steve Matthes a tweet with the photo and ask him if he would retweet it for you. He has 27k followers and also lives in Vegas.

You would be surprised what a little persistance can accomplish Billy. They didn't take the tape at the Days Inn in Atlanta when our bikes were stolen. In fact the Security Company let Frenchie record it on his phone. Everyone's different.

Each state is probably different, but doing that , tbe case will be dropped. violation of chain of custody. , actually the less people involved the better, less chance of mistakes, and witness and victims dont show up for court.

Walmart probably won't let the victim of the theft see the footage, but will share it with law enforcement. There are a couple of reasons for why they don't share with the public. One of them is that they don't want the public to know which cameras are real or active, and which are not actually functional. Someone could claim a theft just trying to find out where the "holes" in the video system are. Another reason is that they don't want to reveal the quality (or lack thereof) of their video capture systems. I doubt most of their stores are equipped with stellar cameras. And then there is the liability issue of sharing the images/video with someone and they decide to enforce a little vigilantism on who they believe to be the perp based on that info. If a company like Walmart gives out the info and violence were to occur, there's a decent likelihood that they'd be found at least partially liable for any damage done by the person.

Very well written with solid points.

From what I am told from a buddy in loss prevention at Walmart, only 1 of every 5 cameras work. The rest are empty under the dome.

Really hope the bike gets found. I honestly believe thieves are the scum of the earth and deserve to be treated as such.

maybe , maybe not, but leaving a bike unsecure unattended is foolish. and asking for problems. bottom line its not wal.marts fault.

This! I work in a huge high line car dealership with $100K cars lying around everywhere. We had like 5 or 6 cars stolen right off our lot in the span of a few years (classic cars which can actually BE stolen). The entire complex is only 10 years old and the old security cameras we had were a complete joke. They were literally useless. It was like watching an old VHS tape that had been recorded over too many times. We just upgraded our system and it cost around 200G IIRC. One of the guys pulled a good prank on another dude and we convinced the manager to let us see the tape so we could all get a good laugh, I'm pretty sure its all 1080P resolution now, shit it amazing. I'm getting off track but what I'm saying is if a fortune 500 dealership conglomerate has millions of dollars in car inventory being watched by 1980s dog shit technology, I'm willing to bet the parking lot at Walmart is probably gonna be using the same.
