Stock pipes

I see some stock pipes having a black coating on them. How are these made? Eg Suzuki rm 250 , cr 85. Is it just a coating of black paint? Going to hopefully if it’s paint strip and then give it a works look.

Yep, its just paint. You can use a really strong paint stripper to help but I just used a wire brush on an angle grinder then used 1000 grit sand paper to smooth it out and shine it up a bit. Then a gas torch to blue the welds and you have a factory looking pipe

Aircraft paint stripper works pretty good. Just keep it off your skin...

I paid $10 at a sandblaster to have it done.

I soaked mine in a machine shop vat, which as a bonus also removed all the carbon deposits.
