Back into moto last 17 years. Never had a problem with stinky boots with usual cleaning. My current 2 pair seem to be more smelly than I remember. Serious question. What do you guys use for interior cleaning to prevent odor?

Do you have Fox Instincts?

Mine started to smell like crazy, i have never ever in my life witnessed anything like it. Utterly garbage boots. They pretty much fell apart and suddenly(around 15 hours of riding) started to smell absolutely horrible.

^ This! I've had the same scenario with the Instincts smelling like cat piss as soon as they get wet. I've done everything to wash them with no luck, the odor is still there.
Although, I have over 35 hours on my Instincts, with very little wear. Best boots I've owned to date, besides the smell...

Yep, have the cat piss smell in my SG12s with about 50 hours on them. I've tried everything under the sun that won't ruin the insole and nothing works.

Get some ski/snowboard boot dryers and use them after riding.

You can also put dryer sheets in there after riding to mask the smell

Put crumpled news paper with baking soda in them when you finish riding...let them dry outside of your gear bag...wash the inside with a mild laundry detergent such as Woolite then rinse thoroughly. I also use Motorex Helmet Fresh in mine between washings...follow the directions on the can.

I've played hockey but the Instincts were something else. I'm serious.

My boots have never ever smelled that bad but one day my Instincts started to smell like cat piss. The worst smelling things ever. I stoppad using them after that and the smell went away after a few weeks.

Lots of other people have had the same thing happen with the Fox Instincts.

I've been in the Instincts on and off since before they were in the public hands. For me, the "cat piss" smell went away with the latest batches that have the blue liner inside. Anyone else experienced the same?

I've had trouble with the tech10 inner boot. They are great that you can just remove them and wash. The problem is they fall apart after a few washes. They are mostly just glued together, and the glue starts failing after a few washes.
The cat piss smell is the smell of your old sweat, it's not the actual boots, but some materials seem to exacerbate the problem.

I detail cars, you can buy odor bombs or odor eating things oriented for automotive interior.

Vinegar does also eats odors, maybe a shot glass of vinegar in the boots (Last Case Scenario)

Played hockey my whole life as well, also have had boots with booties that smell like something died and done the same thing.

As odd as this sounds cover the inside with shaving cream, let it sit for 5 minutes then rinse it out. We used to do this with our skates and gloves, and if you've ever smelled that then you know how bad it is. Use the barbasol foaming kind and lather it in there then let it sit for 5 min and rinse it out. Let it dry thoroughly you can use a hair dryer if you want. Works good on your hands too if they smell awful from your gloves.

I know its weird as hell, but it really works.

Has anyone tried soaking them with a water vinegar mix? It works great for getting the smell out of synthetic gym clothes, jerseys etc..

Do you think a sprinkle of Oxiclean would help?

I had it and got rid of it in my Instincts. Got a boot dryer and sprayed the crap out of the inside with Lysol lemon a handful of times.

Put antibacterial hand sanitizer inside them before every ride. You can use it multiple times while they are sitting there until your next ride to help get rid of the initial smell. Put underarm deodorant/anti-perspirant on your feet, prior to riding. Bacteria is whats responsible for the smell.

Kill the bacteria, kill the smell.

I wasn't as lucky as you. This is my second set with blue liner inside.

Do they happen to be Fox Instincts by chance?
My brother has a pair of Instincts. I make him put them in the bed of the truck. They are the most horrible smelling objects I've ever smelled. I won't even put my boots next to them in the garage or else they'll get contaminated.

He calls it a fragrance. I call it a horrible odor.

Bacteria needs two things to survive. A water source and a food source. Take either one or both away and the smell will go away.

Most riders dont dry the boots properly after washing. You need to dry quik.

A quik fix....put them in the freezer for a few days.

The problem is boots staying damp with sweat. I always give me a quick flush with water and then put them outside in front of the air conditioner outlet fan in path of the warm dry air, it drys them in a flash and keeps them nice. Then put a bit of carpet deodoriser in them.

Works well for multiple days of riding espeically when its wet

I have use Peet boot dryers for years. After washing I put the boots on the dryer and the next day they are dry. It drys at a slow rate so that there is minimal shrinkage. Never had a problem with smelly boots. I also have one that runs on propane that I use for long weekends at the track.

awww, a little stink and you guys get all flustered. Back in the day we had to get hand me down boots that already came with cat piss smell in them. And we kept them for years after that, never washed them, would feel like hard cement boots when you first put them on. Yeah they stunk up the truck and the garage, but it kept you awake for the long ride home, and kept the wife from snooping around in the garage. Man up.

Superfeet

They're antibacterial and provide superior arch support. They are a little pricey but I use them in ALL of my athletic footwear and they last for a long time. I had terrible stinky footwear and foot pain/support problems before I found these. No problems now.
