Steve hit the nail on the head. All the we have to have a hot chick talking and trying to convince everyone to have a "good time" at Supercross, stupid tweets, trying to convince everyone to buy a ticket, showing bikes in living rooms, etc. Stupid shit.

Like Steve said. Treat it like a sport not a show.

Great rant, Steve. Travis, please forward this sound file to the producers at Supercross.

Absolute gold and 100% gospel.

I pray that dumbass #SXonFox goes away this year. Some people love to bitch about Ralph, hell, Ralph isn't even (remotely) close to being the worst thing about the broadcast. That whole program needs an enema.

Agreed. Ralph and Jeff are the least of the problems. Steve was livid and it was nice to hear someone with considerable clout in the sport literally speak his mind honestly about how stupid the show makes our sport look.

If you haven't heard it please check it out and share it and hopefully someone at Supercross like Bondo actually listens because it is so, so true.

Treat it like a sport, not a show. Dead on.

That's all well and good except your all missing one point.

It is a freaking show.

Ever watch Sunday Night Football? It isn't really much different than that. Sure the Twitter/Instagram segments are kinda lame, but they occupy what, 30 seconds of each broadcast? The focus is still squarely on the racing, which is broadcast live, uninterrupted, and with pretty damn good coverage.

SX isn't a big 4 sport, and never will be. Don't expect to get the kind of coverage or production that comes with being football etc.

And yes, it is a show. Like it or not

|

Not sure why showing moto fans (bikes in their living rooms, babies dressed in moto gear..etc) during the broadcast is such a bad thing..

I guess people just like to complain..

Cant wait for A1 and this year we are going to Daytona!

Does anybody know what time the rant happened? I’d love I hear his opinion in full but I don’t have the time for the full podcast.

Yes. Absolutely horrible

the whole broadcast is pretty lame. the way they try to educate the viewer EVERY FUCKING WEEK to what supercross is and how it works. it's lame. Ralph and Jeff don't get off the hook that easily.

It's at the end at the tweet at Travis. Last 30 minutes.

Ralf is a pro. Jeff is mud. Ralf works within every Jeff dud. If Jeff's dictation were as smooth as his shoes the racing we watch would surely match booze.

I dvr it and fast forward through all that stuff.

The only thing that I find really awful is the segment where we have to go look at all the tools watching the race from the comfort of their living rooms while sitting on their fucking bikes. Oh, and let's not forget that they're always in full gear, you know, just in case Roger dials them up and needs them to fill in for the night.

It's Feld, says right on their website, "Our Brands" :
Monster Energy Supercross, Disney on Ice, Sesame Street Live and Trolls the Experience
(and defunct Barnum and Bailey Circus)
Prater can't be that dense, he must be afraid of losing his job to actually speak up
and say Feld is taking the wrong direction. (as in they're going too Ringling Bros. and too little pro sport)

I just start watching it an hour late and fast forward through all the BS.

As long as they show the Mains and most of the qualifiers , I tune out the rest.

Is that what you tell someone that is just getting interested in the sport to do?

|

Honestly, I'm just happy we get to watch it on television. I'm so focused on the racing I normally don't hear Jeff and Ralph and when some of the other non racing stuff is on I'm chatting with my friends about the riders, racing, bikes etc.

Supercross is one of the most respected motor sports in the world. It shouldn't be ran like a circus no matter who owns it. We shouldn't have to skip thru stuff just because they choose to show a hot chick in hopes, as Steve said, Billy Bob will stop as he is channel surfing.

Quit trying to appeal to the new fans. Appeal to sports fans. There are a butt load of those. Take it seriously as a sport. There are more diehard sports fans out there than there are casual possible viewers.

There is a very solid fan base. I've said the same thing about the MX games. Appeal to them, not the casuals. Same scenario. And try to gain the serious sports fan, the NFL fan, the MotoGP fan, the NHL fan.

It worked for the ESPN broadcasts in the 90s didn't it? Yes, they were voice overs but their format was serious and sport oriented.

Respectfully disagree. Ralph and Jeff are the first link to the corny side show theme that's produced.
Treating viewers like dumbasses is frustrating af.

Can't see it changing any time soon so I'll do what 500dude does and skip the filler shit and cringe through the commentary.

|

10/30/2018 2:27 PM

I've been watching it next day on youtube for years now. I have better things to do on a Saturday night than watch a 3 hour Monster infomercial.

Videos start at the gate drop and end with the winner rolling up to the podium. It's great!

I don't mind the "show" aspect of it. What I can't stand is the waste of time mentioning sponsors that are clearly visible on their hat/goggles/jersey/background, etc. It's bush league. When somebody sticks a mic in your face, don't waste your TV time reading out a list of sponsors that's already clearly visible to the viewer.

Empty a bag of skittles into the toilet and then flush. It's like watching a five second long nascar race.

Steve's being a bit hypocritical, isn't he? Because he's mentioned a thousand times how plain old racing is boring and how they need to juice it up with snake pits and smoke screens and oil slicks and stuff.

I personally did enjoy being a kid and watching the 90's broadcast, but what I didn't like was setting it to record 4 days after the race at 2am. At least now it's live (for the most part) so I can have my own little party. You may say "well I record it anyways" or "I don't mind watching it a few days later with an all-sport themed broadcast", but personally I'm one of those people that enjoys it 100x more live. If I have to deal with all the "show" aspects to keep it live, I guess it's a necessary evil.
