Oh yeah he was on the 125. He was fun to watch, and was working hard. Dude must be pretty fit - he wore all black in both motos and it was pretty damn hot today. Just seemed like a combination to make things that much harder on himself (125 + hot-as-hell black gear).

That beautiful buzz saw sound you kept hearing in the broadcast was Steinke wringing that 125 out. Awesome!

He's awesome. Qualifying on a 125 on these power robbing rough tracks is no joke.

So close to getting a point! He was getting close to Frye but just ran out of steam. He rode excellent today on a rough, deep (well half of it) track on a near stock 125. Watching him each week has definitely been a highlight of this summer.

That's because it looks like too much work for Mathes, or anyone out of shape for MX.

Who gave a crap about somebody running 21st to 40th before this if they weren't a buddy of yours or a factory rider grossly underachieving.

Who's following Steinke every week now? Who can remember the name of anybody else's sponsor who Steinke is running with?

Best of all, who smiles when they hear the sound of that ring dinger coming down the track towards you?

Steinke is doing a great job rewarding his sponsors with exposure they could never have expected from a rider outside the top 15-20. He's also gotten himself noticed pretty good too.

That's not a sideshow. Ronnie Mac is a sideshow.

Steinke is out there racing against the best in his class and representing his sponsors very well. He's done a better job of representing Cool It/ Themotech this year than James Stewart has in representing Suzuki or Davy Milsaps in representing Kawasaki in my opinion.

Matthes needs to respect the job Steinke has done. Getting noticed for something positive in the positions he finishes is not easy to do. It's even harder when members of the moto-press would rather speak negatively of your efforts than respect the results you've managed to achieve.

Steinke has been doing this for years! I remember he showed up to the Top Gun Team Shootout at Washougal in 2008 on a 125 when he was still racing the C Class, & waxed the entire School Boy Field which at the time was pretty much an open class that was just capped at 25 years of age.

For sure! The question is how deep into the points could he get? The 125 is at a huge disadvantage but the riders get better as you dip into the top 20. It would be damn cool to see lap times with a solid pro on both bikes at the same track.

I've heard all of matthes' rants about it and I get what yall are saying, but it seems like yall and matthes aren't arguing about the same issue. To me, matthes is actually trying to say that Steinke is better than that, so he's handicapping his results by sacrificing power. At least that's what I got from it

Just think of the difference he could have on a left over orange brigade 125 race bike...

While this may be true, lets say he's finishing in the 15-20 range on a 250f, no one gives 2 sweet f*cks, but I'm sure the crowd comes alive when they hear that 25th place 125 coming around the bend!

Also how many guys in the 15-40 have threads started weekly about their results, bike, sponsors, etc.

its only sideshow from the standpoint that Steinke hasnt ran outdoors if at all for most of his career. and that he is out there to have fun not do well. obviously he is going to do as much as he can to palce well but you cant expect much when your starting behind

Well spoken, Matthes is obese and couldn't get a leg over a bike in his physical state...lol

At least let them race the 150. Man, what a rule! Can we post a pic of the AMA guy who is responsible for the double displacement rule? "OK fellas, I suggest double the displacement. All in favour say aye." Who the fuck said aye?

I watched him closely on the LCQ at Unadilla and the lines he was taking while passing 250f's were absolutely amazing. Railing the outside WFO in the bowl turns was absolutely amazing and had me wondering if a return to 2 strokes would be a good thing.

Matthes view on Steinke is just his opinion. We all have one, and they are all weighted the same.

The guy is having fun racing his motorcycle. End of story.

Absolutely, I agree. But that's not really the point Matthes is arguing about.

In reality, that is short-sighted. There are a select few that concentrate on marketing themselves, like a brand to present to fans/sponsors. It allows them to have a career outside of being an RC/RV/JS/etc...

Not saying that is the case with Steinke, but to say you should only ride what gets you a better position isn't necessarily true.

Post a reply to: Steinke???
