Looking at the 450 all time stats, there is one category Dungey could catch RC, all time podiums.

Trip out on some of these numbers:

btw: if Dungey wins this title, he will join RC as the only 4 time Champions.

Jeez, RV not even in the top 10 on podium finishes. That's really surprising

I guess you're right, when you think about how long he was around for and how successful he was you just imagine him to at least be in the top 10. Kinda forget how much he was injured

I think from this point forward, Dungeys winning will be cut in half!

Just my opinion, based on what I think about his competition.

Pierre Karsmakers was the 1973 AMA 500 National Champion, winning 14 races. He should be under "International Champions". Way to spit in the face of a motocross legend.

Here is 125/250 stats:

How does Stew have 28 wins but not top 10 podiums? Certainly he got some podiums that were not wins?

I dont know if you all get these pre race stat PR newsletters from MX Sports and during SX, but i love browsing through them and seeing all the stats for each race, and they lead to some good bench racing, hence why i posted these Cool

Sign up for the newsletters if you havent.

Dungey; all depends of how Tomac & Roczen step up consistently. All time wins, impossible, but to tie RC in term of championship is not a 0% probability, let us say 1%.

Martin; I get the feeling he could rank much higher in the 250 with this year. How many overall wins has he now? Can he gets mathematically above of Lamson ? That would be big !

Thanks for the post, very interesting stats. I think Dungey will break the podium record if he stays healthy, he's knocking on the door for sure and props to Lucas Oil for 44 seasons of Motocross.

I think Tomac winning Daytona shows he's still the outdoors beast and has a can of whoop ass for the field. Of course we all know he has to keep the rubber side down. When's he clicking I think he's the FMOTP. Dung will be there to pick up the pieces should anything happen to Tomac. Roczen? Eh, Dung has him covered. Ken will win races but it's the races he doesn't win. He's not always on the podium where we all know Dung is either winning or finishing on the steps

I thought that before the SX season started. I posted more than once that it would be hard for anybody to get even more than 3 wins with all the talent out there. I don't like the taste of crow. Sick

I think if Dungey wins the title this year he has a good chance to get 3 more and tie RC with 7 titles. I don't really see him slowing down in the next few years.

yeah it is
but he won 24 motos and 12 overalls in 2008 alone. So I thought he would have more then 20 overall wins.
I guess he came short a few times when racing against RC because he went 1-2 and RC 2-1 if I remember correctly.
I thought he would have something like 30 tbh

Agree, but when you consider 12 came in one season he probably should have more. Then again he hasn't really started or finished that many seasons.

I can see him breaking the podium record eventually. But he would need to podium every race this year and the first 6 races next season (would give him the 18 to tie it) to do it in the same amount of races/seasons RC did (RC raced exactly 7 and half seasons to get his 84 podiums). Which, Dungey being the definition of consistent, is certainly fathomable if not likely. No matter how you slice it though it's beyond impressive. This wasn't even on my radar so thanks for bringing it up ocscottie. Interesting.

The biggest question though is how many more seasons will he race? Hasn't he stated, or hinted, that 2017 will be his last season? Is this still the case or has that changed?

Even if its just through next year he has a good shot at breaking that record. If he races even 3 more seasons I think it's a forgone conclusion he'll break it.

Dungey needs 18 podiums to surpass RC. I think a real possibility.

Cool, thanks ! That will be something the announcers will watch this summer, as Martin should pass Emig/Holland, Baggett/Glover, then normally Cooper. That is a big achievement !!! He will have to be in a full domination mode to reach RV (9 more wins) and Lamson (+10) ; everything is possible but I see him more playing it smart by being very consistent, to stay healthy to take the title (and tie the 4 best in 250), then move up immediately on the 450.

Dungey reaching some RC's stats ? That shows how much we are spoiled fans to have him, CR, JS7, KR etc on the grids. I wish JS7 takes it easy this summer, the team Suzuki should put in the pits some no pressure relaxing music, bucket hats/hawaian shirts and feng shui furnitures Smile A cup of tea anyone ?

I hope not, but it seems likely. This is a pretty soft era as far as championship contenders go, it just doesnt seem right if that elevates dungey past any of carmichaels levels in the record books.

Soft era? Roczen, RV, Tomac, etc. seems like pretty decent competition. RC had James for a year or two, a hot and cold Reed for a couple of years and Windham who seems could never put the pieces together. Could argue that his competition was softer than others...

Yes, all the great champs make their era look soft.

I must be turning old and grumpy.

Am I the only one that is wondering when "podium finishes" became something worth keeping track of.

They seem to be getting more press than actual championships.

Fantasy Sports drives all those stats now.
And computers make it easy.
