At 23 years old, Unless you’re under 120 lbs and under 5’ tall, you should be looking at a bigger bike !

That's a big oof my dude. At your age you would be better off with 125 probably but, but butt!!! You have to know that whenever you are buying bike at that prize range you will be lucky if you spent another 400 of paper with queen during the year on the bike.

Also don't go cheap on helmet and boots.

Wish you all the best on your offroad adventures.

Unfortunately, with a budget of £800, you won’t get far. That’ll get you a nice gear setup (to reiterate, don’t go cheap on the helmet and boots), but you won’t have much leftover for the bike, itself.

I’d look into an older 125. I see some pretty cheap KX125s and CR125s on Craigslist every now and then, that might be a good starting point.

I recommend a 1986 CR500 if you can find one. If not, any modern 450 will be much better than a YZ85. Just remember to roll the throttle on. You'll be fine. Besides, what could possibly go wrong as you get familiar with motorcross?

With only £800 you won't get many powerbands on a motorcross motorbike.

Don't let these guy get you down and say "you can't". Ever heard that song Jukebox Hero? That's you bro. You're the 2027 SX Champion, you just don't know it yet.

Standing in the rain, with his head hung low,
Couldn't get a ticket, it was the sold out Monster Cup show.
Heard the roar of the crowd, could picture the scene,
Put his ear to the wall, and like a distant scream...
He heard one four stroke..just blow him away! Saw SX stars in his eyes!
The very next day, was on Craigslist. Didn't know how to ride it,
But he knew for sure, those Renthal bars, felt good in his hands
It didnt take long, to understand, that race sag, sunk way down low..
Was a one way ticket, only one way to go...
So he started training...aint never gonna stop....
Gonna keep doing motos, and be a SX Hero..........

Two “why is our sport dying” threads a week and then almost half of you guys troll a dude trying to get into the sport.

To the original poster in this thread...Motocross is the most fun I’ve ever had doing anything ever. Buy a 125 2 stroke and HAVE FUN.

|

i would buy a late 1990's to early 2000's yamaha yo 125. Bike are bullet proof and fun to ride.

STFU NOOB!

Get a 125 in good shape, doesn't matter if its a CR, RM, YZ, KX or SX. Any bike is way better then no bike!
Don't cheap out on boots and helmet.

|

7/12/2019 3:03 AM

Hey mate, don't listen to the trolls on here they're the same people who whinge about the sport and why it's not as popular as it should be week in and week out yet they come on here and bash on people.

You should try and hold out longer so you can save yourself more money, that amount of money won't get you to far in terms of a bike although it will get you some decent gear and like others have said don't cheap out on a helmet and boots.
For your age and I'm assuming you're over 5ft tall and weigh more than an average 10 year old kid, you're best bet would be a 125 to start out on.

Goodluck and have fun.

Don’t listen to this guy, this is terrible advice. The last thing you’d want to do is learn on a stock 500 or 450F. You’d be much better served with a fully modded 500 or 450. Preferably mapped and running race fuel!

He has to know we're kidding right?

I agree with the 125 advice and the quality helmet and boots advice. You should also do some reading about what to look for when buying a used motorcycle. There are certain clues that will tell you the true condition of the machine.

Today is your lucky day!.

I have an 86 YZ490 that I, coincidentally, was just asking $1,005.84 for(you pay the extra shipping charge).

I'll box it all up and get it on it's way to you as soon as we exchange paypal info/$, bro.

BONUS TIME!: I'll even stuff a vintage pair of Fox Tracker boots and a Bell Moto5 helmet in there!

Lemme knows...

Standing in the rain, with his head hung low
Couldn't get a ticket, it was a sold out SX show
Heard the roar of the crowd, he could picture the scene
Put his ear to the wall, then like a distant scream

He heard one two Stroke, just blew him away
He saw stars in his eyes, and the very next day
Bought a beat up two stroke in a secondhand store
Didn't know how to ride it, but he knew for sure

That one dirt bike, felt good in his hands
Didn't take long, to understand
Just one dirt bike, slung way down low
Was a one way ticket, only one way to go

So he started ridein'
Ain't never gonna stop
Gotta keep on ridein'
Someday he's gonna make it to the top

And be a Cereal Box Hero , got stars in his eyes
He's a Cereal Box Hero
He took one dirt bike, Cereal Box Hero , stars in his eyes
Cereal Box Hero , he'll come alive tonight

In a town in Minnesota, in a heavy downpour
Thought he passed his own shadow, by the KTM back door
Like a trip through the past, to that day in the rain
And that one dirt bike made his whole life change

Now he needs to keep ridein'
He just can't stop
Gotta keep on ridein'
That boy has got to stay on top

And be a Cereal Box Hero , got stars in his eyes
He's a Cereal Box Hero , got stars in his eyes
Yeah, Cereal Box Hero , got stars in his eyes
With that one dirt bike he'll come alive
Come alive tonight

Yeah, he's gotta keep ridein'
He just can't stop
Gotta keep on ridein'
That boy has got to stay on top

And be a Cereal Box Hero , got stars in his eyes
He's a Cereal Box Hero , got stars in his eyes
Just one dirt bike, put stars in his eyes
He's just a Cereal Box Hero , aah aah aah
Cereal Box Hero , Cereal Box Hero , he's got stars in his eyes
Ryan Dungey has Stars in his eyes
