So if the margins are super skinny, where is the incentive to operate as a dealer? Is there bigger money in the side by sides and quads? There is a kawi dealer by me and they have so much inventory and there's never been any more than a small handful of people in there. Way more employees than customers. How do they survive.

I have grown a trend over the past 10 + years and that's to buy a last years model or so. In another month when all the 13's are released the 12's will be around $6500 - $7200. You can still find new 10's around for about 5999 - $6500.

Unless they made some big changes to some of the bikes ( like maybe the CRF ).....you can save quite a bit by picking up a last years model. Just my way of thinking.

I know privateers on high level doing that with Hondas 450. They for sure doing it with -12 model, because it's dialed in by many suspensioncompanys after 4 years. They are really good now. Remember -09 ? Not funny. New model= new problems. Wait half season and hopefully suspcompanies/raceteams are back on track again? if buying -13? I put my money on regular forks any brand by knowledge from friends at Ohlins.(They tried build airfork seriusly) They not using it in roadracing either(they nearly own motogp) or any car racing. And F1 is cream de la creme. They not using it? -10 to -12 Hondas are my favorites. Lots of them and easy to find good price.

Red Hills Powersports here in Tallahassee has a brand new 2011 RMZ450 you could probably pick up pretty cheap. Yamaha does reimburse the dealer for freight and prep based on a flat rate. I can't remember the last time i paid freight and prep on a new bike. If you buy in Florida, you should be able to circumvent sales tax also which will save you a decent amount of change.

If you're interested, PM me and i can let you know who to get a hold of.

Manufacturer's "Price Protection Policies" are instated currently for some of the larger dealerships which doesn't permit them to 'advertise' anything below MSRP. Kawasaki is the strictest. Your best bet might be to call ahead or go to a shop and talk to a sales manager to see if there's anything that can be worked out. Sometimes there is, sometimes there isn't.

I know this, because I get slapped on the wrist frequently enough to almost require a Barcia brace.

Both are sitting in my van as I sit here and ice the knee I blew out on June 1st.

I still ride a 06 CRF450, and love it....it only has 55hrs on it, so it's still like new. Smile
No plans on updating any time soon.
