Star racing turnover

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2022 5:43am
Assuming craig nichols and martin leave. All they have is kitchen and thrasher. Obviously romano will come up. But will leblanc as well. I feel like they will want one more big name. Who would it be?

Colt and Cooper have to move up.
Craig says he is going 450.
Martin wants to also but see what happens.
Thrasher and kitchen stay
Remano, Leblanc and deegan move up.
That's 5 riders. And maybe Martin or Craig stay.
I think colt leaves and Cooper stays and star have 3 450 guys

They will probably sign a few but they might also run a larger 450 team next year so maybe only 1 250 each coast like Honda. Just guessing.

I don’t see Deegan coming up until 2024.

Cooper stays. Nichols goes husky or gas gas. Could see 14 going to gas gas possibly. With Craig’s brother 450 manager i could see them also making a spot for him

You think they are giving Justin a 450 ride? He isn’t eligible for 250s after this year

I think husky can get someone better than RJ. Not to knock rj. We will have two 250 Supercross champs moving up along with the possibility of jmart. I’d give it to jmart before rj.

If they are smart dudes moving upto 450s and gonna keep the same training regimen then they might ought to look at a orange, white, red wpchassis bike.

Don't forget there's the possibility that we have 2 new 450 teams. Beta and triumph. So there may be a few spots for guys like Craig colt and jmart

Will there be a 450 HRC seat to fill after this year?

No I doubt it. If Kenny does leave. I believe he will race 2023 supercross. Jett will prob then take the seat for out doors. That gives jett 2 sx season on the 250 to try and win a title. An then 1 chance to back up his outdoors. He would be about 20 at this time.

I could be wrong, but I don’t see Cooper or Nichols on a Star 450 next season. Unless something goes terribly wrong with DF14 and ET3, I see them being the Star 450 guys next season as well (DF14 would have to resign). Craig would probably be the first guy in line for the 3rd Star 450 spot if they have one. Especially if he ends up wrapping up the SX title and put in more solid result this 450 MX season.

I believe Cooper and Nichols will both end up somewhere in the KTM/GASGAS/HUSKY/RMATVMC umbrella for the 2023 season and beyond.

Star is establishing the 450 team now, they can graduate into the 450 class with Nichols, Cooper, Craig and keep them pending on Salary/bonus. The one thing they have to overcome is riders thinking the 450 isn't good. Austin Forkner had a opportunity to go to Star and turned it down because of the 450. With that said, all riders would kill to go to that team.

The current crop they have is good, but they can also sign riders from other teams much like Mitch used to do. They will continue to rip n roar

I will bet anything Nichols and Cooper get another year of eligibility based on some loophole the AMA approves like "didn't complete a race defending the championship". It's the AMA we are talking about here. Not to mention it's good for the sport given the lack of 450 factory rides and the deep playing field vs. the 250 class.

I can't recall which media outlet said this but one of them said they have no other option.

I doubt it. The rules look pretty straight forward to me.
They don't use words like you get 1 chance to defend. If they did then they would have a chance to race 250.
Rules uses words like they can defend the next year or season only. So I don't think they will be allowed to race 250s anymore.

I think Cooper will stay. Bobby thinks he has a future with the team and is much younger then colt and Craig.
Star runs 3 bikes in the 450s already. So to have a 3 rider 450 team they only need to add an extra 450 for sx.
They also have a 6 rider 250 team. If needed they could reduce that to 5 for budget and no1 would even notice.

I could see them running Cooper in 450 Supercross and 250 outdoors. Factory teams used to do that a lot.

But a lot can change in 12 months.

Not arguing, or saying your wrong, but Im pretty sure Cooper is maybe only a year or two younger than Colt. He came into pro racing at a much older age than most kids. I want to say he is going to be 24-25 this year and Colt will be 26-27 maybe?

Ive never seen Cooper ride a 450, but I have seen Colt ride one and his smoother riding style may work out well on the 450. They are both champions, so well see if Star can make room for either of them. I just find it hard to believe that the Star 450 program next season isnt going to consist of DF14, ET3 and Craig.

Sounds like Deegan may move up next year. Him and Brian have mentioned it a few times in videos and in public. He signed a 4 year deal with Star, if he can move up next year it would give him 3 years to develop and earn a new contract. Kinda the same deal Vohland did. You see it every year that riders move up with 1 or 2 year deals and they just cant get up to speed in 1 or 2 years or injuries cause problems. Many riders have made it public that racing AMs in the USA does not prep you for the real deal so, why not get thrown into the fire.

Just checked and Nichols will be 28 in March and Cooper will be 25 in August.

Tomac is basically on a 1 year deal with an option for a 2nd if he wants to continue racing.
