As per Matthes on Twitter, Star has protested Sexton for illegal fuel.

If it materializes, does it put a asterisk on the title for Shane and would Gieco pay out the bonus to Sexton since he did his part?

You mean a more oxygenated fuel than what they already run?

I will fully support this, if the fuel comes back clean. I think with a protest like this, if Star is wrong, they should have to make a 10k-20k donation to either Alpinestars medical unit or road to recovery. Just with so much on the line.

Chicken shit move....unless Geico were blatantly cheating. I am guessing (with absolutely zero knowledge they were not)

Will be interesting to see what happens

Thats a very specific protest, do they actually have some knowledge about it? If they did know why wait till after wards to protest?

It's not like a big bore, Sexton didn't ride past the mechanics area and all the start mechanics looked at each other and were like, "hmmm sounds like that thing's running some hot fuel, lets go tell the AMA about it once all this is done and the champagne and championship photos have been taken"

Very odd

When will we know?
i have no idea how long the process is but considering nobody in the know has said anything other than its true he is being protested either means he did get docked and theyre waiting for a statement or means there hasnt been an official decision yet. pure speculations here on my part, but i would think if nothing was found someone would of already said so

"Ilegal" Fuel didn't take Sexton to overtake Shane and regain the position when he let him by. He was the better rider. If Sexton ends up getting docked and Shane takes the championship it has an asterisk IMO.

Would the AMA/FIM have a test kit on site or would a sample be take from the tank and sent to a lab for analysis?

Give Sexton Shane’s bike and he wins by 30 seconds.

Would be interesting to know WHY they are protesting. They have to know or suspect something for making such a specific protest.

Probably would change his starting position

They have used the same fuel the whole time they’ve been in SLC....why wait until now? It’s a BS move, they are acting like mini dads in the shaft drive class at Loretta’s.....

I agree, but if they were cheating, there needs to be some sort of ramification.

Any body can protest any body for fuel. Just pay the $800 protest fee plus the additional $1000 fuel protest fee.

I’m sure for Star, the $1800 is worth it; public opinion probably doesn’t sway them too much.

Per the rule book, the FIM will defer to the AMA for the testing, which is allowed to last past the 5pm Monday deadline to levy any penalties or position docking related offenses.

And, before it comes up, the teams agree to a document that says any team filing a protest cannot go outside to a court of law. Whatever the AMA finds is final.

We're just hearing about it now, so we naturally think this is all happening "now", but for all we know, they've known about something going on and kept it in their back pocket. If it turns out to be false, then it was probably just a chicken shit move. If it turns out to be true, then I'd guess they've known for a bit and were hoping to win without having to play the card.

...which would still be a chicken shit move. Who at Star is responsible for the decision to protest?

Probably yes. But "fuel" is not all in starts. We had privateers getting holeshots this year. And I find it funny, Star Yamahas are, according to vital, a huge advantage over the competition because of their power, yet, they are the ones protesting.

The best riders won and those are Chase and Dylan.

If I remember correctly, for amateur and pro, any protests can only be made within a specific time (30 minutes) from when the unofficial results are posted.
After that time is passed, it becomes official
