Star Yamaha or Geico Honda 450 Riders?

With many riders trying to move up to the 450s do you think we could ever see Star or Geico carry a 450 rider?

Geico has run a 450 many many times. Only stopped in 2017

From what I have seen and read online Craig has only been on a 450 for the last month or 2. I wonder if they will carry him outdoors and into 2021 for SX and MX.

Well, and I'm very much stealing this point of view from Matthes, this is partly due to how the 250 class is presented. If SX is the money driver the sport, there really is no big difference for a sponsor to be involved with a 250 team or 450 team. On the broadcast, they get the same amount of exposure, the same number of interviews. At the race live, pretty much the same deal. So the incentive for a manufacturer to pull 250 resources to fund more 450 rides isn't there at all, nor is the incentive from an outside sponsor there to choose 450 over 250. The hardcore fans know there is massive difference, but the average viewer does not care.

I don't know the solution to the above. De-value the 250 series and sponsors leave. Make 250 a full SX class and 250 teams go from 4-5 riders to 2-3 and people in the industry lose jobs.

To the original question, FC Honda has run the 450 program, of course they had Larocco, KW, then both Tomac and Hahn in 2014, Tomac 2015, Bogle 2016. There seem to be many rumours of some Star Yamaha involvement in a 450 program for 2021. Time will tell.

If thats the case does Plessinger keep his contract extension for 2021 that he has with the current factory Yamaha team?

I would not be shocked if they keep Ferrandis. I have heard Ferrandis say a few times that he wants a 450 ride but wished he could stay with the star racing team. But after winning 2 250 titles I am sure Monster Yamaha wants him on their team.
