2018 150 XCW. It's my new cross country bike for the Torn series in Texas. I've got about 5 hours on it so far. Exactly what I was looking for. Can't wait to race it in a couple of weeks!
The Shop
So light but still fast for a 150
1. Wanted a really fast mountain bike. I.e. lightweight
2. Wanted to be able to wring it out
3. Kept watching videos where guys testing the small bikes were faster than riding their big bikes
4. Fun
Other things that factored were my elevation is only 700 feet above sea level, I'm only about 160lbs, I don't have enough skill to really use the 300.
Previous bikes
80s Suzuki RM80
2006 KTM 300 XCW
2016 Suzuki RMZ250
Some people are just faster on smaller displacement bikes. I've always been faster on smaller 2-strokes and being able to keep-it-pinned just adds to the fun-factor.
I've had a 300 and didn't like it - felt it was so boring to ride. I feel like so many people gravitate to "more is better", but would probably be better riders if they sized-down and pushed their ability.
I spent a day on a new 17 250 XCW which was so electric-smooth and tons of fun, I'd probably go that route given my high-elevation-location, but the 150 or 200 is so much fun.
Been poking around the idea of getting an xc bike.....150
Might be perfect. I was just worried about muddy conditions. Need that bigger bore to get through it. But maybe not.
Sick bike! Give us a mud update.
