Fuck it. Time for a CR 500

I'd love a new bike but I've got a 2 year old and we just bought a house. My last motocross bike was a 1999 KX 250. Since, had a bunch of different bikes for desert racing and supermoto. My last race was the 2013 8 hours of Glen Helen. Been trolling Craigslist for a cheap 250 but ran across this 500. The 500 joins two XR650Rs (Baja bikes).

Cahuilla Creek here I come!

Down to Covina. 45 minutes stuck in Riverside traffic was worth it!

45 minutes isn't too bad actually Laughing

My wife and I went to Tucson back in November and we left our house at 2:30. It took us 4 hours to get to Palm Springs. Normal day is 2 hours... That traffic is no joke down there

AWESOME BIKE!! Is it not an '87? I thought '86 had gold rims (assuming they are stock). The master cylinder guard used to be in the magazine ads. I remember the ads.

It's an '85 at least according to the plate on the down tube.

I think the '85 had silver rims stock. I found this ad for the '85 online:

I'll have to find the master cylinder guard ad. That's cool!

Nice score! I think that brake guard was sold for 3 wheelers! Looks like PO got their money's worth out of the bottom chain roller & swingarm buffer....

Careful! the '85 had a rep as the most brutally-powerful motorcycle ever. They tamed the '86 down to much more manageable levels.
Sweet find.

Gratz! I have been looking for a 500 for a while. Problem is all the good ones come around when I am broke. Sad

Don't skimp on medical insurance. As Falcon said, the 85' was the most brutal CR500. Although I would put the Suzuki TM400 up there as far as brutality is concerned.

Do yourself a favour and get a comp release head to preserve the cases. Hopefully the water pump doesn't have rot or has been already updated/fix. Nice bike for sure, a true brute.
