Well, it was about that time. Our son is 6, but a tall 6 and outgrowing his KTM50 Mini Adventure fast! We refused to pay $5k-$6k on a KTM50SX for him to outgrow it within a year so we decided to get him a 65 now so he can learn earlier and have more time on it. We figured we’d get one sometime around or just before Christmas. Well, my pops happened to stop by our dealer on Thursday to talk to them about pricing for a 2023 so we could prepare for it. Well, I get a call from my dad telling me they had an almost brand new 2021 that belonged to Wyatt Grant. It was a good price we couldn’t pass up and since it was a 21 we’d at least be able to take it to the desert without issue. Called the wife and it took her all of 5 seconds to say let’s do it and go get it tonight(Thursday).

So we headed down to Simi Valley Cycles to pick it up. Our son was pretty damn happy when we pulled up to the house with it.

We took it for a quick ride up the street so he could get a feel for it and to learn how to use the clutch and shift a little. He said it’s fast and he can’t wait to ride it by himself!

My son went from a crf with training wheels and half throttle, then a crf with half throttle no training wheels, to wide open throttle on the crf, then to a klx 110 full throttle, then to a KTM 65sx. This all happened in a matter of 3-4 months! He's lucky Grandpa was a big time moto head. I was nervous about him knowing how a clutch worked, but he got it down after a few stalls.

It’s so much fun watching them grow and learn new bikes and develop their skill. Enjoy!

Doesn’t have to be new, doesn’t even have to be for you; That’s how you speak with the wallet!

Congrats to you and The Family for keeping the stoke alive

Always a special day to see the face light up when they get a bike without warning - the look says a million, million thank you’s and it’s worth it 👍👍

Duane and his crew are great people, hard to find a better dealer than SVC. Donnells in Missouri and Hillview in PA rate up there with them so you picked well.

I will keep an eye out for the little ripper and tell him welcome to the bLU cRU.

Woohoo ! Our son went from a KTM Pro Jr. to a KX65. It took him maybe an hour before he was slipping the clutch and doing burnouts, looking behind at his roost lol. They figure out the clutch and shifting quick. Congrats ! And desert legal too, better than new.

Agreed. Jef, Duane and Gary are like the dream team for shops. You can't go wrong with SVC!

Man, gotta tell you guys that every time I check this bike out and start it up, it makes me wish I was 6-9 years old again. These things are so trick! Don’t get me wrong, my 1987 KX60 was pretty trick at the time, 1996-2000, but this YZ is so much more badass! It’s really like a mini version of a big bike.

Funny thing we learned tonight, my son struggled and can’t start his KTM50, but has no problem starting the YZ with one kick. Go figure.

Congrats dude! Just be careful, I scared my young one off by going to big too fast. Went from a PW50 to a LEM. It took him into the fence and he was done. Tried to go backwards after that but too late. Luckily 20 years later he found the love and we get to spin laps together. That’s what it’s all about, as you know. Enjoy!

Originally he was going to do the same thing I did when I was his age and go from a PW50 to a 65. I was fond of that and then a buddy happened to text me about selling a KTM50 MA that he bought for his kid that never rode it, so for $400 I couldn’t say no. It was a good stepping stone for him and since it was a KTM is really peaked my sons interest in riding. He just outgrew it way too fast. He’s still riding the KTM for now and is actually racing his first race on Saturday night, but he doesn’t have much longer on that stupid thing. I honestly can’t wait to get rid of it and just deal with the 65 Laughing I’m into that stupid 50 triple what I paid for it, but it runs amazing now.

He wants to get on the 65 asap, but I’m making him hold on a just little longer until we can take him out to the desert to learn the bike before we even think about going to a track.

Well done mom and dad. He will love that bike.
I remember buying my son an 04' KX65 like it was yesterday, and he's 28 now. Such precious moments.
Anyway, congrats, great bike, and mx is such a great sport

Small update. Unfortunately we all got COVID and have been home the last week so no riding had happened, but he’s bugging us daily to take the 65 out asap!

Did get the graphics and plastic though. He wanted his 65 to look just like my 05 YZ250 I had, so Factory Effex hooked us up with the exact same graphics, but minimized for his 65! Those guys are awesome and I cannot thank them enough.

Congrats dude.

I think the next bike for my kid is a 250 smoker, so don't blink and make wonderful memories.

Thanks Bruce. Trying not to blink as it’s already crazy we are at the point of a 65 for our youngest. It’s crazy how fast it goes.

250 smoker sounds like an awesome next bike for your kid. Nothing beats a 250 two stroke.

The 2015,2017 rmz450 imo is the best one imo. Loved the suspension. You are in Santa Rita right?

Agreed. My pops had a 13, 15, 17 and now a 20. I really didn’t like the 13 nearly as much as the 15, 17 and 20. Maybe it was the forks, but it wasn’t nearly as good as the others.

Ya I’m near Magic Mountain
