It's finally my turn to start one of these threads! After riding the same 2010 YZ450F for the last 8 years, I figured it was time for a change. I picked up this beauty last week, and am so excited. It's an '05 with what I guess to be about 5 or 10 hours on it. It was owned by a farmer up in Scotland who used it for a bit and then put it in storage for the last 12 or 13 years. Unfortunately it wasn't cleaned very well before it sat, so there's some pitting on the frame and engine cases. Aside from that, some hard tyres and some leaky fork seals, the bike is mint - it still has new bike feel
The bike had fresh fuel, a carb clean and a gearbox oil change before I picked it up. I'm going to flush the coolant and brake fluid too. Aside from the gear shift stopper fix, is there anything else you think I should look at? I want to put some new bodywork on it as well, just to save the OE stuff in case I ever decide to sell it (although I suspect this might be a bike for life). Still undecided on 2005 style plastics or the 2015+ style. Thoughts?
Also if anyone wants to buy my 114 hour 450 let me know

That shape you have now is spot on - especially if you were to get graphics that factory Yam used in 2004/2005. Such a clean look. Personally, I can't stand the new shape stuff.
The Shop
Good thing he didn't start it up or the Bobbies would be all over him.
The YZ 250 is STILL one of the BEST PLATFORMS to build on and NOT get to expensive! But UFO Plastics are better looking than the old or new OEM plastics.
I did not want a 450 WEIGHT and EXPENSE, but I do have the best VALUE bike of all time!
Pit Row
marcopolo400 and FGR01 the parts diagrams that I've checked have the '05 250 as having the shift stopper with the bearing. I've not taken the clutch off to have a look yet though, so I am prepared to stand corrected.
Doddy, funny you should mention that. Steel braided hoses and racing brake fluid have always been the first thing on my list for new bikes - I've boiled standard fluid before on dry, hardpack! I'll ride it a bit before I look at oversized rotors. The bike on its own was at the upper end of my budget, so I don't have much more liquidity to put into this asset Also I'd probably prioritise a suspension revalve and stiffer springs over an oversized rotor.
You currently have part # 5CU-18140-01-00
You need part # BF1-18140-00-00
They switched to the newer part in 2016. It has a solid wheel and no bearing to fall apart.
If ya wanna go modern look later....Use the ufo restyled kit. Keep your older style airbox. Get some 08+ forks.
And change the thread name to “spoke with my wallet” !!!!!!! Damn you!
