Just picked up this 2018 YZ-250X for my oldest son...although I may end up keeping it for myself! Ha! Have to admit, the blue wheels had me at “hello”.
He’s always ridden Honda 2-strokes, but since becoming somewhat of a recent Off Road convert from MX, he wanted to stick with the 2-stroke and Honda obviously doesn’t cater to that market. This is the first Yamaha we’ve had in the family, so looking forward to breaking it in and seeing what these YZ-250 2-strokes are all about. I have the requisite off road goodies ready to install, but If you YZ250 gurus care to pass along anything pertinent to YZ-250 ownership, it’d be much appreciated.
Picked it up this morning from the shipper. Actually enjoyed the small assembly that was required.

I thought the X came with lights?
The Shop
They were made out of KX stators or something of that nature.
They sometimes come up for sale on eBay.
Also, there is a washer you can remove from the powervalve assembly that gives it a little more snap.

Also a jetting thread; many people recommend the Suzuki needle since it cleans it up a bit mid throttle:

If you really feel like it, you can check the timing and adjust it. The casting marks on the case aren’t accurate and the bikes can come a degree advanced or retarded.
Pit Row
But they where offered in road legal state too. So i guess they would have to be sold in germany too
Metal looks like he is from Norway.
To the op, nice ride, they are very popular where I'm from. I've ridden one briefly and was initially impressed. I'm sure your son is going to like it.
I love how interchangeable the parts are between bikes all the way back to ‘99.
