Great photos. Is Gajser running the number 1 tomorrow? I see Herlings is.

I asked Gajser about running the number one plate on Friday. The number 243 is his late brother's birthday, and he's not going to run the 1.

I can respect that. But I'm trying to figure out how 243 relates to a birthday.... Dizzy

Thanks. I guess I was thinking narrow minded, but I'm good now. Wink

Makes me wonder if Honda will pressure him into running the #1 next year, can't see big red passing up the opportunity to run it.

In Europe, the number is not that important. I believe it is from early days of Valentino Rossi riding 46 all his career, even tho he could run nr.1 all these years.

Nr. 243 was given to Gajser on one race in Slovenian amateur years, as he was racing at that time with 116. But his biological mother did not want to sign Slovenian racing licence permit, so he and his father went to Croatia and take their FIM licence.

So, Gajser raced for almost 2 years with Croatian licence in his junior years, and as a "guest" in Slovenian championship, he had to choose the number above 200. As he did not want to, and raced 116, the officials just gave him 243. That year he raced 116 on a bike and 243 on papers. I recall that from watching races, as it was strange...
Next year they changed it also on shirts and bike, when they saw in 243 the birthday date of the late older brother.

This is the whole story about the 243 number.
