Not including Mitch...that guy and team are on another planet.
Can't include managers of "guys that would have won anyway"...JS, RC, MC, Hannah, etc.
Keith Clark- Yamaha late 1970's (Mike Bell, Rick Burgett, Glover)
Dave Arnold- Honda 1980's (just name a rider, that team was the most dominant ever)
Who else??
I think you'll find that most true champions, not one hit wonders, would have won with any capable manager.

And they got the bonus potential grandchild mold with Erin Normoyle!
I give DeCoster more credit than some. They have been dominant with RC/Reed/Dungey but they also won titles with Albertyn, Pastrana and Jesseman. For a ten year stretch Suzuki was by far the most successful manufacturer, yet I don't think any of their title winners entered the season as a clear favorite.
Also I would give a nod to Kehoe during the YoT days. Roncada and Fonseca were definitely not sure bets but they earned that team a couple titles pretty handily.
The Shop
A team Manager is only as good as there best rider. Ask Larry Brooks and then look at JGR. JGR has more resources but Brooks has the most important thing. James Stewart!!. Brooks gets it. Its all about the rider. JGR not so much.
With all said Dungey rise to the top is a great story.
Nothing more.......
He won World Titles for Honda and Kawasaki with Albertyn, Everts, Tortelli and Maschio and also managed Beirer, Bervoets, Talon Vohland, Frederic Bolley, Ramon and Chad Reed.
Not a bad resume.
