I'm about to pick a Salem FSX 181RT up to pull with my Tacoma.

https://forestriverinc.com/rvs/travel-trailers/salem-fsx/181RT/4580

Anyone have any tips on how to secure the bike down without having to add a wheel chock? My old cargo trailer had an e track setup so i could put it on the stand and use the footpegs so the suspension is unloaded, but I don't want to drill into this floor.

What things are you guys doing to protect the floor so the bike doesn't beat the hell out of it? Any overall tips you'd give me on setup / things to for sure buy and bring?

I have a 260RT. I just got cheap wheel chalks and bolted them for a piece of wood. Then put it up against the back door to secure it. Works great

This is the best pic I have at the moment. Obviously I cut the board and they're now flush against each other.

Now that is slick ! Thanks !

Do you put anything down on the floor to protect it from the bikes, toolbox, etc or are they pretty tough?

I put these down. They're cheap at harbor freight and piece together like puzzle pieces. They worked really well because they dont slide around. They help keep things in place. They're easy to clean too. They're nice because when you unload you can just stack them and throw them under the camper, just like the wheel chalks.

The linoleum in toyhaulers is pretty tough, but I still managed to warp/tear mine. Be careful with it.

It looks like your model has tie down hooks in the floor up by the kitchen area; if there are any near the rear door, just use 4 tie downs on your bike. Two at the handlebar pulling it forward, like usual, and two at the footpegs pulling it backward. You won't even need to put your front tire against anything and you can keep the walls/furniture minty fresh.

If you have tie down anchor points in the floor, you could build a set of these. I had E-track all setup to install but I couldn't bring myself to put screws in my beautiful rubber floor! Dry

Not seen in the pic - I added small pieces on either side the tires to keep the bars from turning during transport.

Great idea's. I want a more compact one like that model but really want a wall separating the bikes from the main living area which would also act as a guest bedroom at times as well.

Look up Beast Racks. Wheel chalk system for toy haulers that use the standard rings prebuilt into the floor. It's what I use and is easy to move around and get it out of the way when not using. No drilling.

If you only plan on hauling 2-3 dirt bikes then check out the keystone outback toy haulers. They are really nice. It wouldn't work for me as we have a golf cart and side by side but for bikes only it would be great. We looked at them a lot and almost bought one. We could have got the golf cart in but not the side by side.

That's what I originally wanted, but by the time you get that option, it's too big to haul with my Tacoma. Plus it's mostly just me at the races, sometimes with the gf so this little one will work great.

Lol. That was my inspiration. But after looking at the pricing, I decided a few 2x4's, couple eyelets, and some dedicated ratchet straps was more cost effective. I just tuck my wooden ones under the hauler when were parked. No need to sweat the whole money spent issue.

Thatโ€™s an awesome setup you got there!

I made a board much like the ones already shown and a friend of mine just made me a metal rig that's pretty slick. Cost him $60 in materials and time spend welding.

Note that on my board (which was in Stage 1 of development here), that you don't have to have the triangles off to the ends. Move them in and use them as wheel supports. Makes it a LOT easier to get in and out, too.

Mine had the round base recessed in the floor and I would put the handlebars back a little from the hooks, put the bike into gear and pull it backwards. Then place a brick on the floor and ol move the front tire to hit the brick and then strap the bike down. Never had a bike fall and didnโ€™t have anything on the floor permanently mounted that was in the way when the bikes were out of the camper...

You could put a carpet down put bike on stand, turn buckle with hook setups and hook to foot pegs

3 straps is all you need. Nothing in front of the front wheel. Put the tie down points even with the front axle. The rear shocks are blown out so I added a 4th strap over the rear tire. The strap from the footpeg/frame to the rear is important.

This is the only way to do it, especially in a small toy hauler. The bikes donโ€™t move plus you donโ€™t have to find somewhere to stick the stands.
Sorry for the shitty pics , I screened shot them from a video.

It's been great but we're already outgrowing it. We will be keeping it this year then will get something different. The family is growing so I'm gonna need to get something with more bed space. It pulls easily with my 2018 chevy 1500 though. If it had the happijack bed system I would be keeping it much longer. My truck will be paid off next February so my plan is to bump up to a F250 then a bigger toy hauler.

Iโ€™m contemplating the 260 or 280. Probably get the same mpg with either.

I have the same rig but I have never used a chock. If I'm only taking one bike I put it in the kitchen so it's over the axles and I run 1 tie down from the subframe and then two up front pulled against the rear strap. The bike has never moved.

When I take my golf cart it goes in the kitchen with my bike sitting crosswise tied down the same way.

The only problem I have with mine is I wish the dinette seats in the back were the jackknife style that fold out from the wall instead of having to stow the cushions when traveling with bikes. I have a 2018 1500 Hemi Ram and it toes smooth and fast with a good weight distribution hitch. I actually put airbags in the rear but with the bars set properly I barely run any pressure at all.

Like anyone though this is pretty much a gateway drug. I figured I'd have plenty of room with just me and my wife but with a golf cart, race bike, and generator there isn't much room for a pit bike. #WPP

I agree. It is kind of annoying having to take the table and cushions into the front bedroom. They take up a lot of room in there. I also wish there was more cabinet space.

It looks just like this one...I probably shouldn't post my customer's car without permission. Actually, I had an actual racecar and this one is probably a street car, but they look similar enough.

It's funny how (several times) I've posted the simplest and safest way to tie a bike down but nobody ever replies because it doesn't involve anything and looks boring. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ But I do know what I'm doing, after all, that old Bultaco was 6 inches away from an $850k car for 3000 miles. ๐Ÿ˜
