Can someone tell me when they stopped doing track prep between the 250 and 450 motos? And is there a reason why?

I think it's ridiculous when they are playing slot cars on the first lap, with dust flying everywhere...seems amateur...

what happen to lines developing as the moto goes on?

I guess I don't get the philosophy of concrete straightaways and corners full of muddy ruts...

Ok but if I wanted to see guys tip toeing through ridiculous terrain all day I could watch gncc...the leaning tower of slots at Lakewood is ridiculous and not even cool to watch. Check red bud/Millville if you want premier track prep for motocross...

That is not Motocross, it's more like Endurocross. A couple of ruts to rail are great, the whole track, no.

They do prep between motos. They simply don’t have time other than hitting the first corner and maybe a couple of others spots.

Thunder Valley routinely provides great battles. Explain to me what part of the racing on Saturday was horrible due to the track surface.

Red Bud and Millville have completely different soil than TV. How can you expect the prep/resulting track surface to be the same? TV is on the side of a mountain with a lot of clay. It’s either gonna be muddy to start and sweet for racing (which results in ruts), or its gonna be sweet to start and dry as a bone come racing (which leads to dust). It’s a fine line to walk because once it’s starts to dry out, there is only so much water that can be laid down safely between motos, and that isn’t gonna last for the entire moto.

I thought they did a great job this weekend. It’s not easy to maintain good conditions on that track all day long.

Leave the tracks alone except for little tweaks.

They haven't been tilling it super deep, which is helping the tracks not rut up as much. High Point is usually tilled really deep so let's see how it is this year. I believe whether or not its going to rain has a lot to do with it as well.

And yet, JMart said he wants the tracks ripped deep because, "this is the great outdoors and it's supposed to be deep and rough"

Reynardfan1 asked, “Can someone tell me when they stopped doing track prep between the 250 and 450 motos?” With exception for the first turn and start area, I don’t think they EVER prepped between 250 and 450 motos? The track at Thunder Valley looked awesome. Tough sections, rough, bumpy, deep ruts, line selection was important, mistakes being made. THAT’S MOTOCROSS. They had been excessively grooming for years, and when it’s groomed, everyone goes the same speed. THIS .............

Yeah bro. Neighbor had some pretty solid setups back in the day. Even the ones that made a vertical 180 against the wall.

Here is my dad's...it's buried in the attic of our old farm house. Gotta find a way to get it out of there! Excuse the mess and potential "orbs". I'm fairly certain the attic was haunted as I heart some really scary crap up there as a kid. The door to the attic was in my bedroom.

Hard to imagine anyone would use this photo as an example of what is good prep. Sad

What’s comical is that it’s harder to make a bad track/Tilled deeper and watered more!

So, groomed to the point of stupidity via ripping and slots is prep for "unprepped" Euro tracks and the MXdN?

anyone who has worked at a track can attest, it takes tons and tons of time to even just move equipment around the track let alone time to perfectly re-face jumps as well as clean up the mess the dozer leaves behind from spinning around and coming off and on the track. they have such a limited time between motos and only so much equipment, they get as much done as they can...

Wasn't it just 2 or 3 years ago when the MXdN losing streak was building everyone blamed our tracks being to groomed, prepped, and ripped to deep, and that we needed to leave them alone and let them get rough?

Then that happens, and people freak yet again?
