Check out this video from Houston. At the 3 min mark they are setting up the rear sag on JS7's bike and it looks like the Showa tech is cranking in more preload on the shock with night be a ratchet type preload ring. Han anyone seen a shot of this shock with the sub frame removed??

Looked like he was just spinning the preload ring to me. It didn't show them tightening down the other one.

Nice catch, yes it's a type of ratchet/spring loaded setup. It's not just a works item though, i've worked on a few recent Showa A-kit shocks that have the same system. I've never taken one apart though to see exactly what the mechanism is like.

My DH MTB has had that for years.... You can pick them up for 319 on Go-Ride.com with Kashima coating!!!!

Not that big of a thing really just another adjustment you won't be able to figure out just like HSC.... Just set it in the middle and never touch it!!!!!

In the right hands it is useful, also I adjust the high-speed compression quite a bit actually.Smile

Looks like he was snugging up the lock ring. No way he's cranking preload randomly like that.

But does your DH MTB weigh (almost) half as much as other DH MTBs? Lol

I'm 99% sure the works stuff doesn't have a lock ring.

Ratchet? He did it just like we do at the track, take a big screw driver or tire iron and lever it against the frame or reservoir. It DID look like he was setting in more preload but it cut away before he locked it down.

Ok, I'm 110% sure there isn't a lock ring on those works Showa shocks.
