Hello All,
interested in opinions for the best shoulder/collarbone protection for riding.

51 years old, casual old guy 250cc MX/trailrider. Ridden since I was a teenager. Have broken collarbone 4 times over the years (twice motor, twice bicycle). Wifey says MUST get some protection - she is right - my collarbones are shot.

Was wondering if there was a consensus or recommendations for shoulder protection. Not so concerned about roost, mostly shoulder protection.

Have always figured some kind of chest protector would be best - am I right? If so, which protects shoulders best? Looking for opinions.
Thanks

Not a chest protector, but the EVS neck brace covers the collar bones pretty well.

I'm not sure there's any good solution for collarbones. I've broken them with and without protection. Three more and you'll catch me. Smile

Three more? Methinks you need to take up quilting instead. Whistling

GuyB is right. If you land on your shoulder hard enough, you are going to break your collarbone. There really isn't a device to prevent it.

Or maybe photography...and some writing. And maybe a little web uploading on the side.

A chest protector w/ floating shoulder pads definitely makes all of the difference in the world.

Hit up a Cycle Gear and check the Fox Airframes out and others.

Also, NO neck protector! It's not needed for trail riding anyways.

Good luck, I've done mine 2x as well.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is get some hockey shoulder pads. Most MX chest protectors are made for roost deflection, not impact protection.

The hockey pads are made for big collisions (think going down on the ice or shoulder checking into a sideboard). Moreover, The hockey pads are extremely maneuverable since they need to offer mobility through the swing of a slap shot. They have everything you need: light weight (lighter than some MX deflectors), mobility, and impact protection.
