Been around the sport for a while so don't need a lecture but serious answers.

That race was just brutal to watch. It sucked. No fun to watch, no fun for the riders. Just awful.

I understand there are complications from postponing a race such as travel already paid for, bikes and people and fans already there, etc. However, Nascar does it so it can be done.

First, I am not sure if it's the best idea to move the race to the end of the series or postpone until Sunday or Monday or Tuesday. I would rather it be from a fan perspective but it is part of motocross. I would be curious though how hard it would be and what the riders and teams think about it.

I just don't like watching races like that. Just ruins it.

No more than extreme heat races should be postponed. MX is dealing with the elements and as much as I would rather see a perfect loamy track the riders need to be able to deal with the different conditions that varying weather may bring

No.

NASCAR also has an open calendar for their top level series. There are amateur races scheduled for Sunday at Ironman.

Seriously?? That is what this sport is about, racing in differing conditions.

I thought i had seen it all when i read the post where a guy said Kennys title should have an "*" because of the mud.

Now this.

True. Millville when RC lapped the field was a good example of extreme mud. Foxhill MXdN etc.

Nascar can get away with it cause of the fan base and media coverage. And it is a much larger safety risk for Nascar than AMA. I do agree that the track conditions were horrible, but that's part of dirtbike racing.

In golf maybe. I loved watching Daytona SX a couple years ago, I also loved watching todays race, would have loved to watch it no matter what. I do feel bad for the organizers, track crew and families showing up. I've attended races both as a racer and a spectator under horrible conditions but that's a risk you have to take. You do what you can. If you want to stay away from bad weather you do activities that requires you to be inside.

I can go as far as saying a delay can be put out if there are thunder storms, snow or weather that can put riders and spectators at risk but a little mud or rain wont kill you.

There should be a mandatory mud race each summer.

Nope,

Several lines developed early in the 1st 450 moto ,by the end good dirt was turning up in numerous corners.

It looked bad because a lot of riders can whip and scrub but cant ride.

There probably isn't a better equaliser than a mud race.

NO. It is an integral part of the sport. You run what is there, everybody starts even and it plays out just like any other race.

If you take away the elements, you have SX.
A race like today is how you can tell who the more versatile riders are. I personally love it. To me SX is boring, they spend half the time in the air.

I don't believe there is any practical way postpone, but I think they should only have races in reasonable conditions. It would be better to cancel a round then to have one that is unreasonably muddy. in my opinion

Nope. This is what real motocross is made of. Next week at Utah it will be dryer than a popcorn fart most likely so that will make up for the mudder this week. I hope they go easy on water next week.

Agree
Although sometimes they are fun to watch like Daytona SX when poor Ol' Reedy blew it up 2 turns from the checkers and still went on to win the SX title

They will probably never cancel a race due to mud because of tradition, "that's what it's all about", etc. However, there is a problem in having races in those conditions. If in a "regular" race, the start is considered important (and it always is), in a mud race that "important" changes to "absolutely essential." It means that to some degree, the race becomes almost all about the first 10 seconds, which relegates the next 34:50 to secondary status. Kind of sucks.

That is a great point. I never thought about it that way. In fact, extreme heat to me would be a bigger reason to postpone a race than mud.

I mean I am leaning more toward no it should not be postponed. I was just curious what others thought. I mean if it's completely unrideable then yeah of course they will but that wasn't the case today.

I am glad we are all in agreement. I really don't think it should be postponed either. Like you guys said it's what MX is all about. Just part of the elements and that's what makes moto great. Sure, it would of been better to watch a non mud race but it is what it is.

I've raced a couple road races that were torrential downpours. It sucks but I could have sat out if I wanted too. Some guys did. I got beat one time by a guy that I would normally lap in an 8 lap race. Almost wish I had sat that one out. Lol

I think one mudder during supercross is good for the sport too.
