Should I relive the glory days?

I just turned 30 last week and I brought my 2004 CR125 out of my parents garage and gave it a nice tune up. I rode all day yesterday and can't stop thinking about it. I haven't raced since I was 18 and there is a race this weekend I am thinking about. It would be probably be a 1 time thing, but I am interested in picking up the sport again and getting into trail riding.

Should I do it?? Or am I going through a 30 year old life crisis and will probably hurt myself??

Also, I went through the bike pretty well and everything looks good. There tires are probably 12 years old but it was sitting on a stand in a conditioned climate and they still had air but could that be a safety hazard?

I also just placed an order for a new helmet, boots, and riding gear on motosport so I think you all know I might have made up my mind already..
Poll

Should a washed up 30 year old race his 04 CR125 2smoker this weekend in vet class?

my brother and i are 33 & 32 respectively. he has raced in about 10yrs and lined up last weekend. i last raced about 3 years ago. both experiences were about the same, 2 laps of awesomeness then massive arm pump. it was worth it being back on the line though

I had the same idea last year. After barely 2 laps it was pure survival mode.
The week after i experienced some muscle pains like i never had before :D

I raced for the first time ever last year at the age of 33 and it was one of the funnest things I’ve ever done. Go for it and go to have fun, you won’t regret it.

I don’t think you should come straight off the couch straight to a race. Take it to a practice day this weekend instead. Get your timing back, spin some laps, get the feel, and enter the next race in the area!!

The tires Are likely fine, but I’d replace em. Give that bike hell there’s nothing else like it!!

At 55 I still ride a few races a year. Mostly with very little prep or practice, straight off the couch!

Do it!

Go for it. Just know your limits and have fun. You don’t want to look back when you’re older and wish you would have rode more

58 here, too. I did my first enduro ever last year. And my first motocross since 1979. Got 3rd in the MX on an '04 KX 125 in the 50+ class. Raced my '15 Husky TC 125 last weekend in the 50+ and won both motos.

But I didn't come straight off the couch either. We ride pretty much every weekend and I've been riding 3x week on our home track for several weeks.

I say "ride" but do so with realistic expectations.

I just turned 42. Haven't been on a bike in 22 years and haven't raced in 24. I plan on buying a bike next spring and racing again. Other than hangovers getting turned up to 11, my 30s felt like my 20s. Go for it.

I paused racing in 2008 at age 51. In 2015 started again at 58. Repeated over and over on the way to the track: "Don't crash, don't get hurt." I crashed and got hurt. So......do it, but don't crash, and don't get hurt.

Dude that's not even a question, especially if you still have the bike!!! I got out of the sport when I was in my late 20s because I too felt old and "washed up." Then at some point around age 32 it hit me....I missed riding, why not give that vet class thing a try? And I have had more fun in the vet classes for the past 17 years since then than I ever had before! Much more camaraderie and less pressure.
Go mix up some gas young man!!

Haven't ridden in 5 months and just signed up for the 2 Stroke Nationals and I'll be riding a bike that I still haven't ridden yet. 2 stroke nationals is 4 days after I turn 30. Go for it and have fun dude! Who cares how you finish! Just have fun.

I didn't even start getting good until my late 20s. I had the best races of my life in the +30 classes, and I also rode a 125 against faster bikes. Do it!

30... fuck me, i have T shirts older than you .

I hadn't ridden since last October, , built a bike over a weekend, 2 weeks ago, and turned up at the track and raced it, without even riding it up the street first .

Go ride, but go steady

Do it, don't wait until you can't. Quick story here. My son is 37 and hasn't raced in years. There was a benefit Master Of Minis race last week in Montgomery NY. We decided to go with his Kawasaki 110. He got two seconds in the "senior" class for 1st overall. We had a great time and my granddaughter was very impressed with her Dad's skills. Some of the best times were at the races with the family.

If you were a decent rider before then you will be suprised how well you will ride. I didn’t ride in about 3 years and when I jumped back on a bike I was blown away, it was like I had ridden a couple weeks ago and was comfortable jumping everything by the second lap.
Enjoy! and get ready for some insanely sore muscles haha

Change trans oil, anti freeze, etc and go ride. 04 cr125 is the best chassis ever. Slow motor tho, JM racing will get 6-7 hp more out of it. Stock silencer is very restrictive, a 06 stock silencer is not. Let me know if you want to sell your 04. Thx T^ ony.

I did the swap race over the weekend at state fair, haven’t raced a dirt bike since I was probably 14 or 15, I’m 26 now. Had a blast. Highly recommend reliving the glory days. Especially if you got buddy’s that are reliving there’s too. See ya at vet worlds

Your "glory days" are still in your future. I look back now and think my 30's were the best combination of brains and brawn. As we age, the brains continue to advance. The brawn, not so much.

Coming back to this, Everything memorable i have done in racing happened since i was 30. Raced all over europe, , and ridden in the US , you get to figure that 'the race' is just part of it .. being at the track with your buddies, is worth so much..

I got to ride with an old friend again after 25 years, at MX Rewind, last year, 10,000 mile round trip, got to jump into gravity cavity , being chased by my boy, who came becasue dad was riding , and got to ride himself..

Get it done
