Not really, Herlings is probably a faster MX rider showing new ways to ride a dirt bike but he's not as aesthetic as Stew.

In the US, there hasn't been a top tier talent since RV, Tomac could have been but he lacks of the mental toughness and determination to get it done.

In todays SX crop for example no one is really doing anything different from each other, no crazy lines or jumps that makes up massive time, basically it's coming down to holeshots and corner speed.

However the racecraft of the field as a whole is faster than years past.

Stew just looks like he put so much more into it physically.
He looks like he gave it all out there it's pretty bad ass to see.

KR94 looked like he was going to be the next standout before imploding his arm the first time. He came out to the MEC and just looked to be on another level when he got on the Honda. Other than that I personally think no one is currently a game changer. Steward rode a 125 faster than should have ever been possible, I think footage of him will blow people away as long as MX exists.

There has been some top tier talent in the U.S. since RV. Ryan Dungey is one example...

I'd also put Tomac in there as well. But I'm curious how you think the 2017, 2018, and 2019 MX 450 National Champion lacks "mental toughness and determination"?

That was a terrible edit and music choice but god damn, no one will ever be as exciting to watch on a motorcycle as that guy

Not to ever take anything away from Stew, but in fairness no one is riding a modern 450 like Stew rode a 125. That being said, no one is riding a 125 like Stew rode a 125 either. Holy Sh!t it’s easy to forget.

Agree with everything you said aside from the Tomac thing. I don't think you win three outdoor titles in a row without some serious "mental toughness and determination."

But you're spot on about SX. That A1 review that Stew did talking about lines he would've taken was a reminder of how good he was. There was one section that he said he would've quadded (that everyone was tripling), and he is one of the only people on the planet that is not blowing smoke with that comment. In his heyday, he consistently found lines and jump combinations that no one else would dare. What's more, he would often bust them out for the first time during a race.

Stew is a true living legend.

I'm not sure James ever had a 450 that was worthy of his talents. Maybe the Zook but by that time he had tamed himself down some. Imagine for a minute if the 450 never happened and everyone including RC had to duel with him on the 250 smokers.

That was nuclear bro...anyone trying to downplay Stews talent (like some jackass on this thread who bought up Herlings) is a fool and probably has never ridden a bike beyond novice level
