It’s always been said that US bikes leave at least a month before the race. Supposedly it takes that much time to make it through customs and whatever else.
Tell me then. Do MXGP teams have like 8 bikes. They race in difference countries halfway around the world all the time. How do they make it in 1-2 weeks

Herlings did send some tires ? The rest should have been very close to what he runs in the mxgp.

Didn't Herlings ride Trey Canards bike with his setup & tires? Nothing to ship.

Herlings rode Canard's bike with his tires and they changed suspension for him, and a few other goodies...at the USGP he rode his GP bike (with different frame) as that bike had arrived by then.

Ya and then it had to be shipped to The netherlands 1 week later? So obviously they like 3/4 bikes in constant transport or it doesn’t take a month to ship. Either way that ALOT of time and money

At fly away races all the bikes are washed, disassembled and into the crates right after the last moto and leave the track for the airport. They arrive in Europe on Tuesday morning.

I believe one of the bigger factors in the decision to cancel the moto in Indonesia was to conserve their equipment because they had to use those same bikes at the race in Argentina in two weeks or whatever it was. At least that's how I remember it on the broadcast.

the MXGP bikes get shipped together, and since youthstream is normally working with at least the regional government they would get clearence easier than one off bikes,

there was an issue in mexico a few years back where the bikes did not arrive,

For the GP's Youthstream do the transport, the guys will strip and clean the bikes and crate them up at the races, that way there is a single collection point.

The bikes are all air freighted , together, and delivered to the next race together at the same time.

I would imagine that the US bikes are sea freighted to save money, so they can send more stuff, we used to sea freight everything to WRC events apart from the cars, we had 2 40ft mobile workshops built into containers that also carried recce cars and the like, that left us in february, and didnt come back till october.

Motorsport logistics is an art form, and a constant juggle.

I know a satellite GP team received 18 bikes for 2 riders at the start of the season a few years ago. When they had the overseas races, they had 4 (2x2) bikes pre-shipped to 2 different destinations with 2 practice bikes and 2 race bikes at home. So at a certain time in the year, they had 8 bikes ready for 2 riders... obviously this was exceptional and only happened when they had overseas races that weren't close together ( I think it was Qatar and Mexico).
