My son purchased a set of Shift gear while we were in Cali. He's rode twice in it, the first day the stitching around the knee is separating. The second day the pant rips easily, not sure how it happened.
Is this typical of Shift quality?
We have gone through a lot of different gear and this is the lowest quality I've seen...

yep, i'm canadian, bought a gear set from a US shift retailer.

Same problem as you have, sent email for a return or exchange or whatever he could do, got told to contact shift directly.

Shift US(FOX ) refers me to fox canada and fox canada says it need to be shift/fox us departement i have to contact.

Threw it in the trash and bought a set of alpinestar tech serie. No problem since then

Which line is it? My black label gear is pretty good quality, but the white label seemed a little cheaper.

I have two sets of faction. 15 and 17 I believe from before they changed the naming. It’s held up incredibly well. I have a set of 18 white label and it’s not bad but not as nice as the older stuff.

I’ve worn shift from 2011 all my gear has held up fine.

I had the same experience this spring with a set of Fox 180 gear (2018 collection). That same exact tear developed in the knee after 2 rides and I don't wear knee braces. I was really surprised. I bought my first set of Alpinestars on a whim to replace it and...wow. Talk about a cut above. A-stars gear is good stuff.

I’d say That’s pretty typical of modern gear materials and manufacturing. I’ve wrecked a few sets of various brands.
I now stick to the lower priced stuff made with more traditional materials.

I bought a pair of 2017 White Label gear. Not terrible quality but the pants tore at the back within two rides and by three were completely torn. To Motosport's credit, they replaced the pants for free, though I doubt the new pair will last any longer.

Same kind of tear on the knee of my 2018 fox 360 pants, looks like the same fabric, not even sure what caused it.

I bought 4 sets of the white label & same happened. Either on first or second ride either the knee busted open or the material tore. I also bought one set of black label and that held up for about 5 rides before tearing a small hole in it. Switched it out for Fox 360 and couldn’t be happier with it.

There may be people that have more talent than you, but there's no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.

Keep in mind that the white label line is entry level gear. Same with the Fox 180. Really suprised that this happened with the black label set. I have ridden in shift gear for over 6 years and have had numerous gear sets and never had an issue with their product. Wondering with where the tears are on the pant, if there is a sharp edge on a bolt or something on the handlebars. Bummer tho regardless

I stitched it up, but this is the knee area on my 360 gear, same crap fabric that tore on the op. Tore during my second ride in them. Photo

They're trying to save weight so they dropped the F, it's just shit gear now

Looks similar to the material on my Seven pants. Lasted a week and they were trash...
Gear these days is shit...looks nice, feels good, pricey and lasts a couple of rides.

'entry level gear' thats a weak argument. so for 200 bucks its ok to be garbage after 2 rides? Thats bullshit. Almost scam if you ask me. Doesnt even matter which line it is in this case.

I didn’t say that. And the white label line sells for like $100 not $200. I honestly don’t think any set of gear that is $100 will truly be durable enough for moto.
