Shell rotella t4 diesel engine oil for yz250 2t?

Hey everybody I'm searched online for what gearbox oil to use for my 98 yz250 2t and rotella t4 15w40 seems to be a popular choice but the only one I see says it's for diesel engines. Is this ok to run?

Yep. Ran it for years. Works well, change it often.

I run it in both my yz125 and 250, works fine.

I don’t need to change it near as often as a four stroke either.

Don’t run it. The oil has friction modifiers. Get quality oil, and you will receive better performance and not need to change it as often.

Thats all false and been proven. Lots of street bike guys use regular car oil because its better for the engine and the clutches dont slip unless they are shot anyway.
Good car oils can handle far more heat and pressure than alot of top quality MC oil. Sad but true. Hard to argue hard facts.

To my surprise, the diesel oils are worse for protection than same brand car oils. They are just designed to handle more soot.

That said, T4 is Jaso MA and MA2 rated for wet clutches..........

The guy JUST above you posted he has 200 hours on a clutch running this oil..

I run Delo in everything, diesel oil is great oil. I get it at Costco in the gallon packs.

The new version now has friction modifiers the old version didn't it's formula changed in the past year.

Are you sure, because it Still has Jaso MA and MA2 ratings for wet clutches.

The T5 semi synth 10/30 does not, but T6 full Synth does as well.

Read the Labels. T4 and T6 have Jaso MA and MA2. I just bought some of both.
T5 Semi Synth 10/30 does not. Im pretty sure Shell Oil knows their products more than a bunch of internet people.

Plus, the 100's of thousands of people that run car oil with no problems. How do they explain that?

hell ya run it , your bike is probably as slow as diesel so cannot hurt.

I can tell you i ruined a whole basket and plates using the "new" formula i guess. I used it for a long time. Then all the sudden i go through a new set of plates and grove a basket after one ride. Never again will i use it unfortunately. This was only a couple months ago.

Total baloney. Modern car oils are often BETTER than "motorcycle specific oils."

This has been proven over and over. I used Rotella 15w40 in every 4 stroke gearbox I had from 2001 to 2006. Perfect long lasting performance.

Next thing you'll say is two strokes can't use ATF in their gearboxes.

I have been using the T6 "blue jug" in my Ktm 450 sx & Ktm 250 sx 2 stroke, no problems at all & I"m a clutch abuser. Rated JASO ma & ma2... That means ok for wet clutches ....I have used motorcycle specific oil in back to back comparisons , .the only difference is the price....

Diesel oils like this Shell probably don't shear as fast as car oils. If Rotella T4 is listed JASO its then safe but I wonder what is recommended for the Rekluse auto clutches? Anyone know? thanks.

There is sooo many good motorcycle oils on markets , so why would somebody run Rotela diesel oil in there precious machine ??? These post like this just kills me ! Fucking hillbillis , rednecks and goons? Diesel oil contents additive ford diesel engines not for a motorcycle transmissions !

I ran t6 for years with no issue then burned through a clutch prematurely. I asked rekluse directly and was told they can no longer recommend rotella. The jug lists Jaso but it is not certified, only states that it meets jaso specs. I won’t run it anymore.

In my experience ive had clutch slipping with rotella. Now days i dont consider anything other than amsoil dirtbike oil or maxima mx530 full synthetic.

Because my precious machine is comprised of a wet clutch and some straight cut gears, neither of which is rocket science nor are they unique to dirt bikes. You guys act like these are some special machines that are completely different than any other mechanical device in the world, they aren’t. . .

I’ve ran T4 or T6 in any four stroke I’ve ever owned without an issue since 2002. On my two strokes, Honda or Maxima 80/85w.
