I was carrying a GoPro in my pocket all day, so I figured I'd keep track of my good buddy Kris Keefer during his bid to race at Hangtown...and see if Matthes is team manager material (jury is still out on that one).

Man, it just makes you realize how hard the nationals really are. Keefer hauls, im in so cal so I can relate to everything he's saying. I think he will do better at Pala. He got the nerves out on the first one. Thanks for sharing ML!

I had the same experience at Glenn Helen in ‘15, first lap of the 5 lap 2 stroke practice was rougher than anything I had been riding on in NorCal the weeks prior. Sucks getting old...

MotoConcepts has got to be the coolest team in the pits for doing this.

What does he mean when he was talking about A Ray and asked if he got the 'good boot'?

At work now but I want to check this out later.

Keefer trying to qualify has added some extra excitement to the first two rounds. Hard to not root for the guy.

I agree. Has any team swung the pendulum any further than MC? There were once as disrespected as they are highly regarded now.

The softer break in boot. A-Stars has gone through a few revisions on the new Tech 10, I currently have five different types of new gen Tech 10s. The sets being sold to the public now are pretty good but the first batches from mid last year were...stiff...so stiff.

The crazy thing about that is in the 1st practice he was top 40 in times, but like 20 seconds slower than Kenny. Kris is no slouch, hell he flies compared to most of us. With a 2:15 lap, Kenny could lap him in a 7 lap race.

It's really hard to appreciate how fast these guys are going because they make it look so easy, so it's always cool when you can get another frame of reference. I hope they do a comparison of LitPro data at some point.

He was 37th in the first A practice ahead of one guy, but 18 guys in the B practice were faster.

How old is Keefer? I think it's interesting, and I want to see him make the 40 man gate this coming weekend.

Great video. Thanks for sharing ML. It's nice to see that view of how Keefer's day went for us that didn't see any of it on tv.

It's a pretty cool story all together really. It's extremely cool to have MCR put that much effort into it , and they are an SX team only. And I thought it was cool of Kris to put that much effort into it , to show his son what he could do ( or try to do ). Even though he didn't qualify , at the age of 42 and to place where he did , not bad , not bad at all. Hopefully Pala turns out better for him.

Good stuff!

After watching AC’s GoPro of the first moto, it seemed like there was a lot less lines over most of the track than what Keefer was seeing. Seems like he had the “man I’m looking around way to much” deal going on. Next week just, twist and shout, quit looking around so much!

It’s great that Keefer is giving it a try and awesome that MCR is stepping up to do it. I’m addition to following all the usual stuff on race day I was definitely checking in throughout the morning to see if Keefer was going to qualify.

Love watching this and enjoy listening to them talk about it on Pulpmx. Did Keefer qualify for the nationals he rode during the 2 years he raced seriously?

Where is 53rd coming from? He was 55th and about 6 seconds out from 36th for a direct transfer to the show.

I think it sucks when someone actually goes out of their way to give a real accurate answer too. It doesn't add anything to the thread whatsoever.

Was hoping you'd have some footage of getting hollered at for crossing the track! Grinning

Thanks for the video. Cool to see inside the MCR rig.
