Sexton....where did this come from?

7/23/2022 4:53pm Edited Date/Time 7/27/2022 6:54pm
I don't remember him being a standout who would likely be spanking the field. He's always been fast but not beast mode fast and he's often made mistakes. Has everything finally just clicked for him now? Is he putting in more work than the other guys to put him on this level above all his competitors? Has he always "had it"?

Very impressive riding Sexton, the only one who can hang with Eli and now beat him.

And from Illinois district 17 . Not exactly a hotbed for top pro motocrossers .

People have been underestimating Sexton for some time, mainly because he trouble keeping the rubber side down.

I had a feeling we’d be watch the Tomac/Ando/Sexton show this season.

He’s a beast. Everyone is blowing Jett but Sexton is pretty damn good.

I remember on Pulp before the '20 mx season they all questioned if he moved up too early and if he could crack top 10.

I didn’t know who Sexton was until he won his first 250 SX title. Forkner had him spanked in every sense of the word until his knee blew up. Sexton was fast but couldn’t touch Forkner. Winning that title was lucky imo but you have to be in it to win it. His title defense year he looked like he really cranked it up a few notches. And every year since has been 10 fold. Stoked to see him do good.

There's a reason James Stewart wanted to help him out. He saw it before we did.

Nearly every Moto pod had him as one of if not the favourite for winning SX . Plus as one of the favourite s for outdoor s . Every pro rider has been raving about how much talent he has the last 3 years . So where have you been ??? . Its not that much of a surprise . Heck Matthes thought he would go on a MC run in SX . Sexton hype has been high for a while. I not surprised at all on how good he is riding

Maybe you don't follow amateurs? Sexton was a top amateur for most of his youth, riding for Rock River Yamaha for a long time and Honda at the end, winning Horizon award. Forkner had a slight edge on him but he's also a year older, which can make a big difference when they're young. Austin turned pro a year sooner so was definitely ahead when Chase followed, but it was also no secret that that Honda 250 was underpowered and he struggled on it. I think Chase is fundamentally a better rider, and now that all the pieces are coming together we're seeing the results.

Reminds me of Jeff Stanton in many ways. Chase has arrived imho.

Kind of has a Villopoto feel to him. Villo lived in Alessi’s shadow during amateurs and was a savage after going pro. Same with Sexton, was beat by Forkner all the time, and now is just shredding.

Chase was fastest qualifier at his first 450 national at Loretta’s in 2020. He was marching away from the field towards his first 450 supercross win in only his second race before he crashed out. He’s always had blazing speed. IMO, what he lacked was consistency (obviously) but also the ability to hammer down from the first lap and to also make moves through traffic quickly.

He’s clearly cleaned up the consistency and mistake issues but he’s also been really good at going from top 3-6 to leader or second place within the first couple of laps. I think that is huge because he’s not getting set into a pace behind guys. He’s able to push right out of the gate. Even if he doesn’t make the pass right away he’s able to keep the intensity up. I think a lot of this is due to the fact that he knows Eli will walk away with the races if he doesn’t make moves fast.

We are witnessing the next changing of the guards. Chase Sexton will be the next household name in SX/ MX.

Last 450 moto was best race in recent memory. Chase Sexton is a joy to watch ride a motorcycle. Poetry in motion.

Congratulations Chase Sexton on an amazing ride.

Dude looks like he is riding at 95 percent while going the same speed as tomac, who looks like he is going at 110 percent... insane...

Props to sexton, it felt to me like a passing of the torch moment... new "rear traction" riding style vs old school beast mode... and the new technique came out on top... sorta like when Bubba started scrubbing... sorta like when mc started soaked up the face of a triples...

Oh and props for all the clean racing up front! I enjoy watching 35 minutes of racing any day over watching people getting bam bammed

I beg to differ. It will be Jett Lawrence.

I never thought Chase would be this fast...able to beat Tomac and hold him off at the end. Not only is he fast he is in amazing shape. Better than Tomac. It showed today.

Heck Sexton never even won a 250 national. Sure didn't expect this level but good for him. I bet Eli can't believe it.

We'll see. Way too early to tell but Chase has a raw speed that I don't see in Jett

I just totally disagree with this , sexton "new technique " talk. He looks more old school technique than anything . Elbow s up , stands up loads , always in the attack position. Sits up front on the bike. If anything Eli uses a new technique more of standing in corner s and never taking his feet off the pegs. But to say any of this stuff is new is a stretch. Everts stood way more than any of the rider s mentioned in the 90 s . Roczen was the next to perfect it then imo . Then Eli. Sexton ,Jett and hunter have a perfect technique . But I can name loads of GP riders from year s ago that looked the exact same as them .ie , Steve Roman .

I agree , his style looks European to me . Steve Ramon is a good example 👍
