OP: this is what you seriously do....
Be extremely vague. You want to give the reader enough information to drive them to make initial contact.... Nothing more. Don't tell the bikes life story.
For example, I grenaded my last 450 and did a top and bottom end on it. What I wrote was "extremely fresh and tight motor". If you put it has 3 hours on a complete rebuild everyone knows it was just puked.
Remember, less is more. Dangle the carrot to initiate first contact.... Then it'll sell
About 4yrs ago I put my 2010 YZF450 up for sale....got a call that night from a dude in California and he drove up the next day and picked it up. I had about 5 - 6 more calls that night but nobody was offering full price.
About 3 - 4 months ago ( Think it was April? ) I put my 08' Honda CRF450 up for sale and within 24hrs had over 25 calls on it. 2 of those which offered me full asking price ( $3500.00 ) and no haggling. And that dude drove 6hrs to get here because there was nothing for sale in his neck of the woods. But I had offers as low as $1600.00......which I told those kind of people to go fuck themselves....literally!
Your bike......it;s a 2013 KX450F right? I think you have it listed for $6000.00. That's a little steep. They are selling them at Powersports and Pro caliber , brand new for $6499.00 and I have seen them as low as $6299.00.
And now that the 2015's are hitting the floor , you'll see the price on the 13's and 14's go down a little more. Those kick ass $1500.00 rebates will probably be coming out as well.
I know you don't want to hear it , or take the loss , but if you want to sell that thing......put it up for like $5300.00 - $5500.00 firm and see what happens.
watch the money roll in
I sold it to a guy who ships bikes in bulk to mexico, probably went to a cartel lol.
Price is by far the governing factor in a sale around here nowadays. It seems the cutoff for a cash sale, in most cases, is right around $3000. Any more than that and people don't have it on hand. There are exceptions, of course, but that seems to be the rule for most of them. The stuff below $3000 moves much quicker than the stuff above, and a lot of the stuff you think should sell for $3000 is being pushed below $2000 because of bikes like yours that can now be bought in that range.
It seems it's a buyers market again in many areas... which is usually a bad indicator for how the economy is about to go. I was stealing bikes right before the bottom fell out the last time.
This year I listed it for $3100, because you know, "if it is more expensive people think it is better" line of thought
It kind of worked. I got several calls.
One who offered $2k and kept mentioning he had 'cash in hand'. I politely declined and he called a week later with $2200 'cash in hand'. Still no go. I told my wife, "I bet he calls next week with $2,400 cash in hand, but that didn't happen.
Another guy called to see if I would trade for an old Camaro! Considering that I'm trying to sell the bike to get some garage space I didn't go for it :-)
So now, I'm curious.I think I'm going to list it for $3,500 next year to see if I get even more calls.
1) Price it right.
2) Good pictures.
3) Good, but not overwhelming description.
4) Be patient and when an offer comes in that is within your acceptable level of sell- do it and don't think "I could get another $20 out of this guy." Cash in hand beats an unwanted bike any day.
5) Be prepared to loose your faith in humanity. There are a veritable trainload of scammers and idiots that will contact you.
There's the link.
I would rather burn this thing than take less than 5500
Here ya go....
Pit Row
To the OP put that thing on Kijij in Canada and you'll get 6000 no problem lol although you may get 100 offers to trade for a sled
Thanks for all the advice yall
Here in Indiana you put something up for sale on CL and every hill jack within 100 miles will want to trade you some piece of crap they don't want for it. Lawnmower, chainsaw, john boat, worn out 4x4 truck etc.
Even though you put that quote in the add, the dumb asses still ask about trades. But it does cut down the number.
Btw, I agree with most on here 6k is a bit high. Good luck though!
