I've had my 450 on craigslist for a few months and have only had one offer so far.

I'm wondering if anyone here knows any craigslist secrets that would help potential buyers find my ad.

Using the proper words help the most. Do you have good photos? Maybe your asking to much?

OP: this is what you seriously do....

Be extremely vague. You want to give the reader enough information to drive them to make initial contact.... Nothing more. Don't tell the bikes life story.

For example, I grenaded my last 450 and did a top and bottom end on it. What I wrote was "extremely fresh and tight motor". If you put it has 3 hours on a complete rebuild everyone knows it was just puked.

Remember, less is more. Dangle the carrot to initiate first contact.... Then it'll sell

Skerby......it may be a little tough to sell it this time of year. I've always planned my sales in the early spring time.....like right when the weather starts to turn good.....people WANT bikes!

About 4yrs ago I put my 2010 YZF450 up for sale....got a call that night from a dude in California and he drove up the next day and picked it up. I had about 5 - 6 more calls that night but nobody was offering full price.

About 3 - 4 months ago ( Think it was April? ) I put my 08' Honda CRF450 up for sale and within 24hrs had over 25 calls on it. 2 of those which offered me full asking price ( $3500.00 ) and no haggling. And that dude drove 6hrs to get here because there was nothing for sale in his neck of the woods. But I had offers as low as $1600.00......which I told those kind of people to go fuck themselves....literally!

Your bike......it;s a 2013 KX450F right? I think you have it listed for $6000.00. That's a little steep. They are selling them at Powersports and Pro caliber , brand new for $6499.00 and I have seen them as low as $6299.00.

And now that the 2015's are hitting the floor , you'll see the price on the 13's and 14's go down a little more. Those kick ass $1500.00 rebates will probably be coming out as well.

I know you don't want to hear it , or take the loss , but if you want to sell that thing......put it up for like $5300.00 - $5500.00 firm and see what happens.

I just sold a 2010 KX450f that I freshened up with a bunch of OEM parts and a box of extras for $2800.00. It took a long time to even get that done. People are broke these days... youre either going to have to be extremely patient or let it go at a pretty low price. Good luck.

Ouch, Last year I picked up an 09 kx450f for $2300. It had a few aftermarket parts but mostly stock. I rode it all season without doing anything other than changing the oil and air filter and put it on eBay and it brought $3500.

I sold it to a guy who ships bikes in bulk to mexico, probably went to a cartel lol.

Event though I'm on the other side of the country from you, that's been my experience.

Price is by far the governing factor in a sale around here nowadays. It seems the cutoff for a cash sale, in most cases, is right around $3000. Any more than that and people don't have it on hand. There are exceptions, of course, but that seems to be the rule for most of them. The stuff below $3000 moves much quicker than the stuff above, and a lot of the stuff you think should sell for $3000 is being pushed below $2000 because of bikes like yours that can now be bought in that range.

It seems it's a buyers market again in many areas... which is usually a bad indicator for how the economy is about to go. I was stealing bikes right before the bottom fell out the last time.

I tried to sell my 07 crf450 last year for $2700. Never got a call.

This year I listed it for $3100, because you know, "if it is more expensive people think it is better" line of thought
It kind of worked. I got several calls.
One who offered $2k and kept mentioning he had 'cash in hand'. I politely declined and he called a week later with $2200 'cash in hand'. Still no go. I told my wife, "I bet he calls next week with $2,400 cash in hand, but that didn't happen.
Another guy called to see if I would trade for an old Camaro! Considering that I'm trying to sell the bike to get some garage space I didn't go for it :-)

So now, I'm curious.I think I'm going to list it for $3,500 next year to see if I get even more calls.

I just sold my 09 kx450f last weekend fro $3000 bucks. I had it for $3300 which was blue book. I feel if you ask any more than what kbb people will not call or just dont have the money for it. It helps if you have extras to go along with the bike. I had extra plastics, chain, sprockets, air filters, oil filters and few other parts to go with it. I feel it just adds to the value. Even sold my stand with it. I do it find it interesting what some people want to offer to trade or cash offers people throw at you. I had a guiy ask me if I wanted to trade for his 2005 kx250f. Sure let me trade for and older smaller bike.

I've bought and sold a bunch of stuff on CL. In fact, I have a bike on there right now and just sold another one 3 days ago.

1) Price it right.
2) Good pictures.
3) Good, but not overwhelming description.
4) Be patient and when an offer comes in that is within your acceptable level of sell- do it and don't think "I could get another $20 out of this guy." Cash in hand beats an unwanted bike any day.
5) Be prepared to loose your faith in humanity. There are a veritable trainload of scammers and idiots that will contact you.

Good advice. I have two 2013 KX450F's for sale right now, one for $5,000 and the other for $5,500 (low hour, comes with all the extras and aftermarket parts). Haven't had any serious bites though...

Put yourself in a buyer's shoes: would you pay $6K for a used bike with potential unknown problems or $6.5K for one that's brand spankin' new. I know which I'd do.

Man I wish I lived in the States, here in Alberta people are asking 2500 and up for 1998 CR250's with missing plastic, its madness.

To the OP put that thing on Kijij in Canada and you'll get 6000 no problem lol although you may get 100 offers to trade for a sled

Lower your price to $5700 and see if you get some more bites. I just paid $6k for a 13 RMZ450 with 17 hours on it but it came with about 4 times more than that thing has. 2 sets of Wheels, 3 brand new dunlops, 2 sets of Plastic brand new and more. If you lower it a little bit it will go quickly. Sold my 08 YZ450f pretty quickly but lowered the price about $100 every week till it went. If you have some extras to throw with it that helps as well. Good Luck it will go but takes some time..

The biggest thing on Craigslist is the price. List for a good price and people will drive for 4 hours to come buy it if it is a nice bike. Nobody wants to give anything away, but for a fairly new used bike, if you're not coming 20% off of what someone could buy a new one for, nobody will look at it.

good advice. Add to that, "absolutely no trades!!!" all in caps.
Here in Indiana you put something up for sale on CL and every hill jack within 100 miles will want to trade you some piece of crap they don't want for it. Lawnmower, chainsaw, john boat, worn out 4x4 truck etc.

Even though you put that quote in the add, the dumb asses still ask about trades. But it does cut down the number.
Btw, I agree with most on here 6k is a bit high. Good luck though!
