Just keep the teams in Detroit and we’ll host it two weekends in a row. Or bring back the two day, double header like on the old Pontiac Silverdome days.

There are a couple of reasons why it could definitely be canceled. The number of deaths already occurring in the region, combined with the confirmed infection of a concession worker at the stadium already.

Not saying that they should or shouldn’t, but those things definitely make it more likely than some of the other venues.

Apparently no one cares about flu deaths.

"Flu deaths up in the new year: CDCFlu deaths are up more than 65% so far in2020, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting that 4,800 people had died and 87,000 people had been hospitalized.Feb 21, 2020"

Just stop with this bs line of reasoning. EVERYONE cares about the flu, that's why we're constantly bombarded with "get the flu-shot" ads and messages ALL fall. Difference here is that there IS NO SHOT. No one is immune and it can't be vacc'd against.

Pretty sure the point being made is, worldwide covid deaths are still only a fraction of just the US flu death rate. The common flu is by far more dangerous than covid19. Yet its being blasted as the next pandemic. Which it clearly isnt

Yet it’s only been how long since it’s been here and already how many cases? It’s going to get worse before it gets better.

It doesn't matter what's more dangerous. I'm not a medical professional so I wont comment on that. But why try to minimize something that's killing people. Theres no vaccine for this which is why it's such a big deal.

Right. And at the same time, areas affected first are seeing a decline. Meanwhile, the common flu is doing what it does EVERY YEAR.... killing close to 100,000 in the US alone. EVERY YEAR. Covid19 hasnt come close to that WORLDWIDE.

The flu is a known quantity, we know how to contain it, and we have a vaccine ready for it every year.

This thing is unknown, it could be fine or it could be disaster. There will be no vaccine ready for a year or more. The last time we had a disease with similar mortality and contagiousness rates (Spanish Flu 1918-1919) it killed 50 million people. SARS, Swine flu, bird flu and the normal yearly flu are not at all the same.

So, we can choose to ignore it and hope it doesn't get bad (ask Italy how it's going there) or we can do something now and greatly improve our odds.

I am not saying I want a Supercross cancelled, that seems way overboard right now, but getting people educated about steps they can take to stop the spread is a good thing. Head in the sand is not.

Please read this. And quit using whataboutism. Cigarettes kill people, oh but so does tornadoes so I’m not going to stop smoking. Just because the flu or cancer kills people, doesn’t mean something new can’t come in and kill more.
Doesn't mean it will either. That's the whole point champ, it's fear mongering to create panic. People are gullible AF! You can literally die at any given moment, why panic? Take precautions and live life to the fullest. This is your one and only chance at life, why spend it worrying about rather something may or may not affect you?

They should change the name to Boomer Flu, since that's it's highest hit demographic. No wonder so many here are worried !!

I’m so glad vital is full of epidemiologists. I had no idea Moto had such a presence in their niche profession.

And here I was thinking vital was only full of doctors, attorneys, and hedge fund managers due to the confidence of some of our members here. What an idiot I was!

JT$ also mentioned rumours about Seattle SX in his "Industry Seating" pod. Isn't F1 going to hold Bahrain GP with no spectators? This could become more common as this worsens.

And what is the common cold... oh yeah a type of corona virus. So What was the mortality rate of SARS 10-12 percent, or MERS another corona virus which was 35 percent and COVID-19.... so far 2%!!!!! All indicators are that if you are healthy you will have mild cold like symptoms with an initial fever... So what in the loving hell is everyone freaking out about. Just like SARS, MERS, Bird flu, swine flu, and Ebola... in a few weeks we won’t hear anything else about this and everyone won’t know what to do with all that shit paper and water in their garages.

The problem is everyone that is over reacting to this crap is allowed to vote! 🤦‍♂️

Alright time for a science lesson. The influenza, common flu, virus is segmented. These segments allow for antigenic variation which changes the influenza virus every year and why there are many different influenza strains every flu season. This change in antigens means our body can no longer recognize the virus and we get the flu again. For the vaccine, the most common strain of the seasonal influenza virus is taken. We also do not have anywhere near 100% vaccination rates. So that, along with variance in individual sensitivity to the vaccine, and the other influenza strains we still have people getting the flu every year.

Influenza has a mortality rate of .135%. In 2019 it infected 45,000,000 people and 61,000 people died.

COVID-19 has a mortality rate of 3.5%. If it infects the same amount of people that the flu did last year, 1,575,000 will die.

COVID-19 is also more transmissible than the Flu and there is speculation that it be may transmissible through the airborne route (the Flu isnt), which would lead to a much greater infections rate than the Flu.

For those of you comparing COVID-19 to the Flu, you are dead wrong to rationalize the significance of this new virus using that comparison.

But...but...but people also die in car wrecks so we shouldn't be a little worried about this!!!
