I can throw a "turndown" with the back end going left, but if I "whip" I actually pull the bars right and let the ass end come out to the right side. Note the parentheses, as they are hardly turndowns and whips.

launching out to flat every lap would take more energy then scrubbing. While scrubbing does take some effort, it's not something that is going to tire someone out by its self. Accelerating and braking forces in and out of every corner require more strength then scrubbing.

scientific proof? does the mechanic at the test track with a stop watch count? if scrubbing wasn't faster, pros wouldn't be doing it over most every jump. It probably doesn't make a discernible difference in my lap times, but I'm still going to scrub that finish line table as hard as possible every lap because it's fun.
