In the end I decided to go with the new 350SXF just purely because I didn't want to put more money into a 5 year old bike engine to make it a bit quicker.

The dealer said they had the bike in stock when I purchased it then few hours later they said they double sold the last 17 350SXF and I will have to wait til the new year for one to rock up, which isn't a big issue.

OR they can give me a 2017 450SXF for the same price straight away. I was opting for the 350 due to the fact a lot of people are saying it rides like a 250F but revs to the moon with power.

Thoughts? 350 or 450?

Go and have a ride on them and decide.

Ive ridden both and to be honest I rathered the 450 for the torque and ability to lug the engine. This is coming from a 300 exc rider.

You really have to rev the 350 hard and I didn't like doing it mainly because I dont like reving engines hard. the 350 felt a bit underwhelming to be honest, maybe a muffler would help open up the bottom end a bit.

I asked them if they had any demo 450's but the dealer said they don't do demo tests.

I loved my full blown CRF250 I had last for the rev factor and ease to throw it around, but that was only pushing 41, which is the stock 250SXF these days

Just go for the 450. It’s widely considered the best in the class and you can always play with mapping if you think it’s too aggressive.

If the dealer doesnt want to help you with a test take your money else where. I know plenty of dealers who will organisr a ride on one for you. Whether its a demo model or organising one of their local sponsored racers to give you a ride.

If you are not buying that KX, where is it located, at $3000 I would pick it up advertise it for $5500 should sell for at least $4500 pretty quick and put that $1500 towards the new 350.

Update: In the end I pulling the trigger on the KTM 350, I had it in my head I wanted a 350 and money wasn't an issue. Great bike, I have put 18 hours on it so far in 2 weeks. I just can't seem to get the suspension right though, the suspension guy I am taking it to can't do it for another 2 weeks. Does anyone have any good motocross settings for a 86kg ( 189lbs ) guy? I have also seen talks about using a different linkage on these as well?

Any other set up tips on these 350's?

Myself and two other buddies who have new huskys run 140-142 psi in the forks and slowed he rebound a click or two and works awesome for us. I’m about 170 without gear and we range from 160-180.

Good call my 2012 kxf shit itself. My 2017 KTM hasn't missed a beat. I'm 81kg, I run 137psi in the front, 8 clicks out on rebound in the front, 7 clicks out on rebound in the rear and it works well for me.compression I adjust per the track but is close to standard.

I went off the MXA settings, but it seemed way too soft so I then harder from there.

They had...

Spring rate: 140 psi
Compression: 20 clicks out
Rebound: 15 clicks out
Fork-leg height: Third line

Race sag: 105mm
Hi-compression: 1-3/4 turns out
Lo-compression: 15 clicks out
Rebound: 10 clicks out

If you set the sag to 105mm and the spring has more than 10mm preload, then go up on the spring rate.

Setting the sag can be tricky, some people change out linkages but herlings is running it stock supposedly

OP rode 18 hours in two weeks?! I've had my latest 450 for two years and only have 25 hours on it. Sad
