I didn't hear if it worked but I was blown away by how surprised they were by it. Trey Canard did it in SX a few years back and then this year during outdoors a ton of guys did it even Ferrandis.
Definitely a good concept, take the second pair off right after the first lap chaos and you have good vision.

I personally have never heard of it before or even considered it being a possibility. I guess if it has been done in the past it’s not as interesting as I thought
Strategically, how many tear offs do you run on the second pair. Maybe 3-5? Just enough to get you through the first lap I would guess. Any more than that and you risk seriously limiting your vision assuming you use the maximum number on the first pair.

I use oakley laminates and could stack 14 on there and have clear vision
Ferrandis tossed these in the second turn at Unadilla. Creative using tape on the back for easy removal.

I think the biggest issue is water behind the tear offs. No matter how many stacks of laminates, it still gets in! That's where the second pair helps lol

Its definitely not an every race thing! I'm just a nerd and rewatch every race 100 times lol

True. There was a significant amount of riders running roll offs probably for that exact reason.

Lol yeah that was really weird. I think there even has been interviews/segments about the double goggle setup the last couple of years.
Didn't he go down in the first corner with Webb? I'd imagine he'd have tossed them right then and there, not sure the idea is to ride with them, just get through the start and toss em.

It's all just unicorn farts and fairy dust untill the gate drops. Those who are faster will always find a way to excel and get to the front regardless of whatever "tricks" people want to use...
Personally I would have gone with Screen Goggles...
I thought it was pretty standard now, not sure why they were so surprised by it... I’m pretty sure that one manufacturer... poss 100%... makes an over goggle, less foam etc for this purpose???

You can made a mudflap for your tear off goggle with sports tape. Like this:

It prevents water behind the lens and tear off's.
