I’m going to quote a pro rider on a factory team, in regards to sand tires, from a private conversation I had with him at Tennessee.
“The team is sponsored by Dunlop, but before we renewed the deal we tested out the Pirelli’s, and their sand tire was like cheating. I was so upset we didn’t go to pirelli”
I am a pirelli sponsored rider, full disclosure, but the only reason I started riding them was my discount. Then once I did ride them- for my upright/over the back of the bike style and two stroke bikes i have found no better tire. I’m lucky to have a deal with them.
I believe it. I think there was only one guy in the top 10 (tomac) not using a Pirelli. quarter second per corner is all it would take..

If this is the Tire that you guys refer to, I am in.

Just found out that my motorcycle store has those from 2017 for approx 47$ and 2016 for 40$, where the Dunlop mx12's are almost twice that price.
Assuming the Pirellis were stored properly, will they be ok to use? They are brand new, dot 2016/2017 though.

Mitas does a sand tyre as well, I bough a rear. They come cheap comparably in Europe. Haven't run it yet.

3mm higher profile, but 6mm more narrow. Higher profile is good, not noticeable but the 6mm more narrow is not good. I thought it was on the limit with MX11 and if the MX12 is 6mm more narrow it is a no go.

No 120 it seems?
No 120 option. I will say, that we use the 110/90-19 on our 350 & 450's, and they work great. It is actually pretty common for guys to go to the 110/90 over the 120/80 due to better handling in ruts. I also use the MX12 on off-road trails, and I love it. I have not experienced any negative effects due to it being narrower than the MX11. The MX12 took an already great MX11, and made it better.

I measure the actual width instead of 110 vs 120. Worst tire I have ever used on sand was Michelin MS3 110. It was like a Pirelli 100-tire and the bike just sank in the rear instead of floating on top of the sand.

That happens when the tire get to narrow unfortunately and I felt like I never ridden sand before until I figured out the problem and swapped to a Dunlop mx11 ?
