Cycle Ranch is one of the top 10 tracks in the country, in my opinion. Learn it, know it, live it!

Cycle Ranch is a great track. Unfortunately, it's pretty much the only good track within 200 miles of SA.

If you want a lot of good tracks to ride, move to DFW.

It's only an oven for 3 months. The other 9 months make it worth it.

Cycle Ranch can be awesome, depending on how they lay out the jumps on the day track (I'm an old guy, some of the hits are tough), great place on weekends, and love the practice on their night track tues & thurs nights. They race many Friday nights and some weekends. The day track closes at like 5PM or so, and getting there after work during the week is tough, but again, there's the night track practices, which are always great. Buffalo Valley is a small track heading towards Seguin, open everyday til dark. Also have Del Valle outside of Austin, nice layout, great whoops section. And there's a place called White Knuckle Ranch west of town that is open on and off, just have to call and see if it opens (haven't ridden there). A lot of guys head over to Rio Bravo on weekends as well for some old school MX.

Cycle Ranch should have gotten the Texas National that ended up at Freestone. Track is that good! Politics and money got in the way. Excellent track and facilities. There is also a track about an hour and a half from San Antonio in Red Rock called Murphy MX. Seems to be on the rise.

And the oven is on for about 5-6 months in South Texas. It's hot from mid-May until November with sporadic days of pleasure. We have Spring and Fall, they are great periods lasting a couple of hours on odd days.Dry

If you like Mexican food, don't mind illegals without insuranceAngry , and like the best dirt in Texas, come on down.

3 Palms in Conroe TX has a few good tracks too. It's about 2 hours south of Dallas on I-45.

3 palms is pretty awesome. but dirt is WAY different than cycle ranch or a track like swan.
real loamy almost sandy at 3 palms on all the tracks.never gets hardpack.
and its 3hr minimum south of dallas.

Why have you settled on the San Antonio area? I agree with CamP. We have a pleathora of tracks to ride around the DFW area. I-35 and Muenster are on the Oklahoma border about a 90 minute drive. Locally we have River Valley, Lucky's Landing, Village Creek, Oak Hill, Burleson motocros track and several others. There are also a few trail riding places around town although they're fewer than I'd like them to be.

Here is a good map for tracks local in the DFW area.

Agree with above - Cycle Ranch is absolutely one of the top 10 tracks in the nation, and there are others. Del Valle is pretty good, Buffalo Valley is always open (but pretty mild and hardpack), and I'm told Murphy's in Red Rock is decent.

Most trail riding is private in SA - but there is a place called Zars Ranch run by Dirt Bike Club of San Antonio that has some 40+ miles of trails. I've never ridden there, but I know a lot of guys who do and they seem to love it. They charge an annual membership fee, I believe.

IMHO SA is a great place to live - very family friendly and low cost of living compared to many places.

Just because she has family there .
I still haven't decided for sure probably going
to visit the area first .
other options would be Sacramento where I'm
from. Or Reno I have family there

And thanks for all the replies.

Cycle Ranch is probably the best track I've ridden. Great dirt (red clay). Great facility. It's in Floresville just over a half hour outside the center of San Antonio.

As everyone has said, Cycle Ranch is flat amazing. You are going to have to drive 2+ hours generally to get much else too ride on however.

SA has a strong economy and inexpensive home prices. I am considering a relocation there myself.

Haha, that's funny.

It is smokin hot there. My brother lives in Austin and I have to say you can cook eggs on the hood of your car normally. I suppose you get used to it.

Isn't Shlitterbahn north of S.A.? I've always wanted to go there.

Yes, Shlitterbahn is between SA and Austin. One of the best waterparks in the country.

Schlitterbahn is in New Braunfels. That's a cool little city.

As far as summer heat goes, I'll take 3 months of hot over 6 months of freezing. I hate winter.

I've got to go there! If not for the waterpark but at least to hit up some bbq places. That's all I think about when I think about Texas.

I think you have to get acclimated to the temps just like we are to winter temps. This one was record cold for my area. I need to ride more than I need to get laid...

Haha that's a good one .. the heat is actually my only concern
. I have lived in Sacramento and its smoking hot in the summer
too usually over 100.
Im in Minnesota now and very much NOT liking
the six know months of freezing .. it is really nice here in the summer
tho and great tracks and great dirt think Millville . Plus a lot
of sand tracks which I like . But winter was and still is awful
we got 7 more inches if snow yesterday and last night .
I feel like I've been hibernating for months we had over 70 days below
zero this winter ugh.. for those of you in a warm climate think
about your freezer and try to imagine it 30 to 60 Degrees Colder
than that lol
